IT'S ON AGAIN
From front man of THE CLASH to his work with THE MESCALERO’S, JOE STRUMMER was, and still is a massive influence to so many bands and peoples lives worldwide. Joe sadly passed away at his home in December 2002.
To pay respects to the great man a night of homage is happening at the Hopetoun Hotel, Sydney on Saturday 16th August, 2008.
Revolution Rock – A Joe Strummer tribute night is now an annual event for Sydney.
Bands getting involved are: THE CITY LIGHTS, THE DISABLES, BACKY SKANK, STEPPIN RAZOR and THIS WAR Each act will play a few Clash / Mescalero’s covers in their normal set.
Proceeds from the event will benefit Strummerville, The Joe Strummer Foundation for New Music.
Strummerville is a registered charity that aims to create new opportunities for aspiring young musicians.
Set up by the friends and family of Joe Strummer in the year after his death, the charity seeks to reflect Joe's unique contribution to the music world by offering support, recording resources and performance opportunities to artists who would not normally have access to them. Well, you are 16000 miles away from me, so I never freed the date on my calendar.

it's good to see that the events proceeds go to the Strummerville charity. they do a Joe Strummer "tribute" here every year, but he bands all pocket the money. i have refused to go every year because of this.

that would be funny. don't think he's much of a Clash fan. more like 80's metal.threecoffins wrote:Is it run by one of Chris Hannah's puppet organizations? In A Rut wrote:it's good to see that the events proceeds go to the Strummerville charity. they do a Joe Strummer "tribute" here every year, but he bands all pocket the money. i have refused to go every year because of this.
as far as i know it's put together by a guy that is/was in the band The Crackdown. lame-o "streetpunk" if you ask me (like a wanna-be Hell-Cat band).
