Both Joe and Paul W. are awesome. They are one and two on my list of favorite songwriter/vocalist/musician. I just realised a week ago that bothImSoBoredWithTheUSA wrote:Yeah, but Joe acted in movies and Paul Westerberg is a self-admitted movie hater.

:) Yeah, they're both awesome. Paul is also greatly underrated as a songwriter in my opinion.daredevil wrote:Both Joe and Paul W. are awesome. Re: Joe Strummer And Paul Westerberg
Sorry to bump this and all, but I think daredevil may be on to something because I also just noticed this while listening to the Mats:
My main focus is between the two bands' arguably greatest and finest hours put in a record. The cover image to the 1987 critically acclaimed, fantastic album, Pleased to Meet Me is a parody of an Elvis album (G.I. Blues). So is The Clash's also great, widely acclaimed 1979 album London Calling (Elvis Presley). Also, Pleased to Meet Me was considered a strikingly big change to the Mats' sound and reputation because of the use of different instruments and genres; likewise with our boys' London Calling. More specifically, the Mats track "I Don't Know" off PtMM features swingy horns kind of reminiscent to "The Right Profile" while "Nightclub Jitters" features a sort of prominent bassline and jazzy atmosphere similar to - you guessed it - "Jimmy Jazz"

Nice.....I didn't know about the Pleased to Meet Me album cover being a tribute to Elvis's GI Blues.

Re: Joe Strummer And Paul Westerberg
I couldn't agree more, it's clutching at straws to find any parallels. For a start there are only five proper Clash albums. No amount of saying 'unreleased in the States' will ever make Black Market Clash anything other than a good compilation of b-sides and tracks from he UK debut, along with the genuine unreleased 'Time Is Tight'. The music covers a time span of two years, it isn't an album as such. And as for 'Cut The Crap' being Joe's first solo album? Isn't it Bernie's wrecking ball of an album?101Walterton wrote:and both their names start with a capital letter.
I'd rather leave it at Joe and Paul being themselves and leave sinister, hidden messages and secret connections to someone like Dan Brown. File under fiction.
