Re: Favourite Strummer lyric?
I know this is a bit off-topic, but I was wondering if anyone could help me decipher what Joe is saying in "When Pigs Fly". I jotted down some words I think I hear, and have underlined words that seem kinda dodgy. Cant find any lyrics on the web, and I checked my 001 CD booklet (which doesn't contain lyrics for any of the songs). If anyone has the official lyrics, or has a better ear than me, go for it.
No one knows if it comes and goes
is it a typical thing?
this thing called love
Do you need to learn to fly?
or can you simply glide?
or take a dive?
or a little turn? like the deepness we’ve been falling, swooping, swallowing the sky
No one knows if it comes and goes
Where’s this new close? oh where?
Where oh when, that is my strive
on a Friday night, out there
or do you go spare?
left the party, act so strong in the get down prom
baby, west german
Everybody knows what Hollywood grows at the stage, in a talking dream
where we try to really celebrate, but nobody knows
This pig will fly, across the sky
All I know is, when pigs fly
That’s the time when you and I say goodbye
Everybody knows what Hollywood grows at the seam, it’s a talking dream
No one knows if it comes and goes
is it a typical thing?

Re: Favourite Strummer lyric?
Do you by any chance own the Notebook that came with the 001 Deluxe edition? I was watching a video on YouTube and I caught a glimpse of what appears to be a handwritten lyric sheet for “When Pigs Fly”:Marky Dread wrote: ↑02 Jan 2023, 4:59pmMade some adjustments mate. The book also contains handwritten lyrics for “Pouring Rain” which are partially available online (most sites are missing the FULL lyrics).

Re: Favourite Strummer lyric?
Nope. I’m gonna have to buy another 2-CD set, just to get the book. And all I really want are the lyrics to a couple songs. But for 40$ maybe it’s worth it. Maybe as a little *late* Christmas present for myself. I don’t wanna keep on asking for scans an stuff.Marky Dread wrote: ↑03 Jan 2023, 11:13amCan you buy it separately?TrashCityRocker wrote: ↑03 Jan 2023, 11:03amThanks a lot Marky. I can’t believe my ears heard the right words on Pouring Rain, “doggin’ em down on H.P. Street” I originally thought was so strange, but it’s what I heard. The lyric sheet confirms it.

Re: Favourite Strummer lyric?
Thanks again. I often wonder what context the song WPF plays in the movie, as it wasn’t featured. I just rewatched the movie last night, the lyrics seem to relate to the main character’s unkempt and unusual way of life, almost bohemian. Plus, he dreams of making it big as a Jazz musician coming from a small industrial town that seems incredibly lonely and void of life. Being in a situation like that means you’ll only make it when pigs fly I guessMarky Dread wrote: ↑03 Jan 2023, 11:35amThe book is cool.
