Thanks a lot Marky. I might just buy the book for the rest of the interesting stuff.
Can you buy it separately?
Nope. I’m gonna have to buy another 2-CD set, just to get the book. And all I really want are the lyrics to a couple songs. But for 40$ maybe it’s worth it. Maybe as a little *late* Christmas present for myself. I don’t wanna keep on asking for scans an stuff.

I can’t believe my ears heard the right words on Pouring Rain, “doggin’ em down on H.P. Street” I originally thought was so strange, but it’s what I heard. The lyric sheet confirms it.
The book is cool. Yep some nice lyrics and well done on deciphering them. 😎
Thanks again. I often wonder what context the song WPF plays in the movie, as it wasn’t featured. I just rewatched the movie last night, the lyrics seem to relate to the main character’s unkempt and unusual way of life, almost bohemian. Plus, he dreams of making it big as a Jazz musician coming from a small industrial town that seems incredibly lonely and void of life. Being in a situation like that means you’ll only make it when pigs fly I guess
I think the song is about finding love in the even the most run down of places. And it's never going to be the big Hollywood on screen bullshit from the movies.

With the talk of Pouring Rain and WPF, I was reminded of the much missed Hellboy's story. I don't think it's on the current edition of the boards, but I believe he was talking with Pogues-era Joe after a show in France and asked about Pouring Rain — Joe said it was a "lost Clash song" (or similar) and that he didn't even remember the words or music. Next time Joe rolled through town, HB gave him a copy of the R-B Showdown boot and Joe delightedly exclaimed "you found my song!" and eventually reworked it a bit for When Pigs Fly. What a yarn!

I remember this story. I must admit I didn't realise it was HB though. 😎 Wait yes I did. Here his post.

Hey everyone

This is only my second post, so sorry if i'm not respecting the protocol. I hope my next posts won't be this long. I have a Joe anecdote about the song Pouring Rain which i thought you lot would appreciate. It's kinda long but you may like it. I met Joe in 91 on the Pogues tour and asked him about Pouring Rain, which i had on of those marvelous 84 bootlegs released on 7" singles. I believe it was on the one with the Chicago show where Joe shouts "If this is the Windy city, where's the fucking wind ?". He told me he lost that song, that the lyrics and music were gone and that he could only remember the title and not much else. He said he'd love to have it, cos he knew it was good and regretted never recording it with the Clash II (although he never called the band with that name, i hasten to add). two months later, when they were planning to play one of their Christmas Shows at the Brixton Academy in december of the same year, I asked my mum to pay for a trip out there to see Joe and the Pogues as a birthday present. I live in Paris, by the way.

So it's three in the afternoon, i'm seventeen years old in front of the door to the Brixton Academy in a not terribly safe neighbourhood (at the time, at least) and there's members of the Pogues asking where Strumboli (their nickname for Joe) was, and he shows up. Super concentrated, he's surprised to see me, says he can't talk too much, gives me a pass and says "follow me". We enter the large theater, he grabs my arm "watch the soundcheck and do'nt let anyone throw you out" then turns to the huge bouncer : "the kid's with me, no one touches him" and he's gone. I'm at this point floating on a small cloud. the show is terrific and afterwards, i'm trying to make my way backstage, expressing my boundless admiration to Shane McGowan who showed up in sign of support, and Joe is surrounded by a shitload of people. I sort of push around to get in and say to Joe that i've got something for him. Out comes the 45 and I point him out that "Pouring Rain" is on the record. "My song !" he shouts, "you've got my song ! I'd lost this song!" he hugs me and kisses me on the cheek and says "you don't know how much this means to me". So we're talking and he's introducing me around, offering me drinks (more than I could handle, actually), invites me to stay over for the show at the Town & Country club the next day, and finally asks me how come i'm here. I answered that it was my birthday and that i was turning eighteen and in France, that's when you get to drive and vote and drink and fuck legally. He turns to the crowd, "oi, let's give him the bumps", grabs my jacket and shouts "take off your clothes !" And he catches my feet while Josh cheuse (the designer of the record sleeves for Earthquake Weather and BAD's second album) takes my shoulders and they proceed to throwing me in the air eighteen times. Joe later made me drink my first brandy and since i was penniless they even drove me to the place i was staying at in the tour bus.

A few years later, in 1995, I'm talking to Joe on the phone for an interview for a fanzine, and he says to me that he finally recorded Pouring Rain for Sara Driver's film When Pigs Fly. "That's your contribution right there" he said. To this day, I consider it as one of the most touching things anyone ever said to me. He knew what it meant to a guy like me, a fan, giving a little help to this guy in his work at a difficult time in his career. At Joe's funeral, I met Jim Jarmusch and Sara Driver and told them all this, which they never knew.

So that's the story, from my point of view, of how Pouring Rain got recorded.

I've had a bit of a go. just need to work out how to show tracked changes.

p.s. I'm sure it can't be "1967" even though it does sound very much like that.

Full Moon lyrics

Full Moon by the blue
i’m riding away on the crazy train
night time it's alright time
no use a’hoping for that moon to wait
now there's no use hoping for that moon to wait

Full Moon riding in the heaven
Full Moon beaming on the sea
Full Moon lineman 67
Full Moon beaming down on me

Full Moon riding in the heaven
Full Moon ploughing thru the sea
Full Moon lineman 67
Full Moon beaming down on me

Night takes the time and space
the fingers on my clock do the finger paints
I been waked at the hour
when the Full Moon turns on the power
when the Full Moon turns on the power
when the Full Moon turns on the power

Full Moon riding in the heaven
Full Moon ploughing thru the sea
Full Moon lineman 67
Full Moon beaming down on me

La la la la la

But I succumb to the drone
of the sleep pit at nam bulong
The wind gongs are gonna beat out the one
hey Full Moon now we got you on the run
hey Full Moon we got you on the run
hey Full Moon now we got you on the run

Full Moon riding in the heavens
Full Moon ploughing thru the sea
Full Moon lineman 67
Full Moon beaming down on me

Cheers Marky, you got more than me but I had quite a few of the same changes as you.

The only difference I had is in;

Full Moon by the blue
i’m riding away on the crazy train
night time it's alright time
no use a’hoping for that moon to wait
now there's no use hoping for that moon to wait

I think that it is "wane" rather than "wait" in the last two lines?

Sounds like "wait" to me. I've slowed it down and enhanced the vocal. But maybe my ears just like that big ol' full moon are on the wane. 😉

I don't know if these were already mentioned...

So don't complain about your useless employment
Jack it in forever tonight
Or shut your mouth and pretend you enjoy it
Think of all the money you've got

Who gives you work and why should you do it

So no one bought Clash City Rockers because they all chucked their jobs in and couldn't pay their bills. Punk rock that's right.🤣
