Three Cheers for Rudie Can't Fail
What a great song. Love it.
Wiggle, wiggle, wiggle like a bowl of soup
Wiggle, wiggle, wiggle like a rolling hoop
Wiggle, wiggle, wiggle like a ton of lead
Wiggle - you can raise the dead
Pex Lives!

Re: Three Cheers for Rudie Can't Fail
It's certainly no Play To Win, but it's still OK, I guess.

Well, with the standard disclaimer that no song is Play to Win (even, perhaps, Play to Win) Rudie is still a great number. One of my favorite tracks off of LC and one of the first Clash songs I was exposed to. Ska-tastic.Inder wrote:It's certainly no Play To Win, but it's still OK, I guess.
Fantastic version by the Meskies:

There may (and this is only a may) be better songs in the world, but no song makes me feel better while I am hearing it.

Oh, also, we have the same Who shirt.

Oh, also, we have the same Who shirt.
But I guess there's very little difference.

Oh, I was looking on a tiny blackberry screen so I just assumed it was the who. Which makes sense, since that's the sort of trickery the Jam were doing on purpose for almost their entire careerWolter wrote:Mine's a Jam shirt.

First exposed to it on the Grosse Point Blank soundtrack.
Songwriting (in ALL facets) does not get much better than this.

Look, you have to establish context for these things. And I maintain that unless you appreciate the Fall of Constantinople, the Great Fire of London, and Mickey Mantle's fatalist alcoholism, live Freddy makes no sense. If you want to half-ass it, fine, go call Simon Schama to do the appendix.

Until Weller got overconfident and thought he could trick people into thinking he was Curtis Mayfield...Flex wrote:Oh, I was looking on a tiny blackberry screen so I just assumed it was the who. Re: Three Cheers for Rudie Can't Fail
I once had a dream of a world where Rudie could indeed fail. I woke up screaming in terror and could only get to sleep after Ali assured me that there was no such thing as 2.

One of the very very best. When we did the ultimate Clash poll I think it finished top 3 ? Maybe the time to re do the poll.
Re: Three Cheers for Rudie Can't Fail
The BNC Brigades have no particularly beef with Rudie Can't Fail.
It's when tripe like Revolution Rock (which is neither revolutionary, nor rock, nor a song) win out that we get angry.
And when we get angry, somebody fucking dies.

I feel that there is a fascistic element, for example, in the Rolling Stones . . .

Re: Three Cheers for Rudie Can't Fail
Rudie Can't Fail is among my most favorite songs of all time. I wonder why it was not released as an high profile UK / US / international single at the time? Why only in Netherlands? Me thinks it's a classic a-side track. The hordes of ska punk bands of the nineties owe a lot to that single tune.
