Btw I notice Mikey Dread is listed which is interesting, as I was under impression the collaboration was all one way only. I don't see any Clash names mentioned on the discography either, unless they were having a bit of fun with the names again!

From memory (haven't listened to it for a while - not a fan of Ginsberg) there wasn't much backing track on that.Toppers Boppers wrote:Plus... (depending on where you draw the line Marky), there's always Allen Ginsberg's 'Holy Soul Jelly Roll' album which has 'Capitol Air' snuck in on disc 4.

It's strange, though, cos you'd have thought they'd be very short odds to have played on something of Mikey Dread's. Maybe they were too comfortable in their safe european homes to want to go back to Jamaica to record again?Marky Dread wrote:Just checked my vinyl copy of Mikey's WWIII album and it just says "Special thanks to Paul Simonon, Joe Strummer, Mick Jones, Topper Headon "The Clash" for the positive vibes and The sweet inspiration from Mickey Gallagher. Thanks Teddy that'd be great. Is the Tymon track "Blind Lead the Blind" available anywhere?TeddyB Not Logged In wrote:I second this vote for Brixton Power. Not only better than the album version, but Mick's backing vocals are loud and clear. The second album is available I think separately as Long Odds and Outtakes, at least on download. Floating around somewhere are some tracks that are original to MJ's mixes that Todd Rundgren later got his mitts into. I'll see if I have any of them to hand.muppet hi fi wrote:i had the double CD about 10 years ago, sold it. i thought it was out of print since then?Marky Dread wrote:I have the double CD on order and I want to see if Mick and Co. are on the unreleased versioNS/outtakes.muppet hi fi wrote:Marky, you probably already know this, but the three songs on Hunter/Ronson's 'Short Back & Sides' that feature Topper are "Central Park & West" (such a classic), "Noises" (pure Mick S!-era production) and "Leave Me Alone" (nice pop tune with fine b/vs from Mick).
Mick's obviously all over the rest of the album.
Thanks for the info, I have the vinyl album.
there are some really fun and interesting tracks, but i think all are with Ian's touring band from that period (NYC guys), with Ronno as well. the only Mick track i recall is an alt mix of "Theatre of the Absurd" (the reggae track), which has a slightly different feel and slightly more MJ backing vox. i prefer it to the album version.

That's the one I was thinking of but wasn't sure if they had a recorded version. Paul plays on this Mikey Dread track, but in 1985, so I suppose that would be JUST outside the limits there:Marky Dread wrote:Just checked my vinyl copy of Mikey's WWIII album and it just says "Special thanks to Paul Simonon, Joe Strummer, Mick Jones, Topper Headon "The Clash" for the positive vibes and The sweet inspiration from Mickey Gallagher. Pretty sure 'Blind lead the Blind' was by a band called B.I.M I think the only way you might find it is on YouTube remember there being an extended version of it as well. I hunted for it for ages a couple of years ago but had to download it off YouTube. Think it was the only thing the band ever did

Somebody was trying to tell me that CDs are better than vinyl because they don't have any surface noise. I said, "Listen, mate, "life" has surface noise."

Thanks mate nice one. I really like that track sure sounds like Stuart Goddard on vocals. Did Mick play on it or just produce it?Dirty Harry wrote:
Looks like B.I.M. had a handful of singles and an album with just the one produced by Mick a mono and stereo mix and the B-side "Might As Well Dance". Still like to know if he plays on it.
