It's certainly not one of my favorite songs, but I have always appreciated Lover's Rock because it's about pleasing a woman. Not very common in rock music.
Yeah, that's a good point.
Until this board taught me otherwise, I always assumed it was a song advocating safe sex, which would also be a rather unique message. Not the authorial intent, or not exclusively, but I actually think the song reads pretty well that way.
Wiggle, wiggle, wiggle like a bowl of soup
Wiggle, wiggle, wiggle like a rolling hoop
Wiggle, wiggle, wiggle like a ton of lead
Wiggle - you can raise the dead

Safe sex wasn’t invented in 1979, just ask The Specials.

And if any band other than the Clash were singing about that, I would’ve probably not felt oily hearing it.
”INDER LOCK THE THE KISS THREAD IVE REALISED IM A PRZE IDOOT” - Thomas Jefferson
I listened to it as it's typically not on my Clash rotation and Inder is spot on with his 70's Stones comparison. I also really do get the feeling that it was supposed to just be a parody of a genre. Joe seems to just be goofing off by the end. I think if they were actually "trying" that I'd feel worse about it, but when I consider it as a tossed off effort I can just shrug and move on.
"They don't think it be like it is, but it do." - Oscar Gamble
I've said it before and I will say it again, "just the kids".
Definitely worse than "Lover's Rock."

And I'll say it again..."just Junkie Slip"
Well there is a poll right there!!
If you think "Junkie Slip" is the Clash's most-disliked song, you're gonna lose …
