I emailed Bernie about his book and got a response:
Thanks for the interest however my book has been advertised without my consent.

I shall let you know when it’s available and assure that you will not be disappointed.

Meantime have a Joyful Christmas and a Healthy New Year.

Wow, so he's going to contact you directly when it's out?

I guess?

He’s actually responded to the few emails I’ve sent him over the years. Never particularly straightforwardly, but he does respond.
Look, you have to establish context for these things. And I maintain that unless you appreciate the Fall of Constantinople, the Great Fire of London, and Mickey Mantle's fatalist alcoholism, live Freddy makes no sense. If you want to half-ass it, fine, go call Simon Schama to do the appendix.

Hello,

If Bernie's too lazy to write his story, maybe we should. It would probably be as accurate.

That supposed trilogy of novels is the only thing that keeps me from checking out prematurely. Goddammit, Bernie, you're kinda sorta keeping me alive. More or less like the Clash in 1985.

Just sent him another email seeing if those dates are legit. Amazon shows the same.

His publisher's page still has zilcho about it, so my left nut remains in the vault of a Swiss bank.

The accrued interest alone will allow me to buy a fine Bavarian castle for my retirement.

You wouldn't last 48 hours in a Bavarian castle.

But it would fulfill my dream of dying while shrieking in confused terror while a flute plays in the distance.
