I was a bit disappointed with the film tbh - I am though a huge fan of the Bendis/Brubaker runs on DD which are some of my favourite comics.Dr. Medulla wrote: ↑21 Mar 2019, 4:05pmDaredevil was entertaining?Kory wrote: ↑21 Mar 2019, 3:58pmOoh like the Daredevil movie. Ed Brubaker is my favourite comics writer going (his Image books have all been stellar), but his DD didn't do much for me. I liked Bendis, overall, but of the last couple decades I prefered Waid's lighter take more than anyone else.deny wrote: ↑21 Mar 2019, 4:50pmI was a bit disappointed with the film tbh - I am though a huge fan of the Bendis/Brubaker runs on DD which are some of my favourite comics.Dr. Medulla wrote: ↑21 Mar 2019, 4:05pmDaredevil was entertaining?Kory wrote: ↑21 Mar 2019, 3:58pmOoh like the Daredevil movie. I have enjoyed Waid's stuff too & after years of heavy story lines it was refreshing & good fun.Dr. Medulla wrote: ↑21 Mar 2019, 4:53pmEd Brubaker is my favourite comics writer going (his Image books have all been stellar), but his DD didn't do much for me. But don't mention Shadowlands which was some of the worst crap I have read. What on earth happened there?
I still laugh at DD's quip to Spidey about Doc Ock being a 'tub of lard' (When Doc ock was Spidey).

Regarding Image comics by Brubaker which three would you recommend please?

Re: Hanging around
That's just it—DD has encouraged lazy writing that amounts to "let's put MM thru absolute hell". It gets really tedious really fast. Waid was a wonderful reminder that the character was a lot of fun pre-Miller.deny wrote: ↑21 Mar 2019, 5:00pmI have enjoyed Waid's stuff too & after years of heavy story lines it was refreshing & good fun.Dr. Medulla wrote: ↑21 Mar 2019, 4:53pmEd Brubaker is my favourite comics writer going (his Image books have all been stellar), but his DD didn't do much for me. I immediately tune out any DD story that involves The Hand. Not my thing at all, and is rarely fresh. But don't mention Shadowlands which was some of the worst crap I have read. What on earth happened there?

Re: Hanging around
Anything with Sean Phillips is pretty great, but I think The Fade Out is pretty good. I've been wanting to check out Fatale.

Well, it's pretty hilarious. Especially Colin Farrell's turn as Bullseye.Dr. Medulla wrote: ↑21 Mar 2019, 4:05pmDaredevil was entertaining?Kory wrote: ↑21 Mar 2019, 3:58pmOoh like the Daredevil movie. Re: Hanging around
Sleeper was DC, but I can't recommend that highly enough. Otherwise, Criminal, Fatale, or Incognito. Sleeper is about a superpowered agent mole in a super bad guy organization who comes to realize there are no real good guys. Criminal is a set of loosely connected stories about, well, criminals (very noir stuff). Fatale is also noir, about a woman who has lived for centuries who draws men to their doom who is hunted by an equally long-lived evil cult. And Incognito is a bit like Sleeper, about a former bad guy who gets recruited by the good guys and trying to figure out who he is. Brubaker is exceptional and well-versed in noir history, blending it into superhero, fantasy, and pulp. As much as I loved his Captain America, his own characters are so much better.

Re: Hanging around
Saw it once and was more appalled than ironically entertained. If it's on tv, I'll make a point of watching. (Is there a bigger star with more total dud movies to his credit than Affleck? And it seemingly has no effect on his status as a big star?)Kory wrote: ↑21 Mar 2019, 7:15pmWell, it's pretty hilarious.
