Long Time Jerk never did for me.
It's a slight song but I do like it. It's certainly the best CR era b-side. Apparently Paul had a big hand in writing it.
I agree with you when it comes to Starship but that ends there I'm afraid.

I'd take a fair chunk of CTC and say it was better than Jerk.
Well as a confirmed fan of over half of CtC I would have to agree with you there! Long Time Jerk just has bit of fun beat and it doesn't take itself seriously at all, unlike Cool Confusion and First Night Back in London.
There's a tiny, tiny hopeful part of me that says you guys are running a Kaufmanesque long con on the board

So, Heston and BitterTom have some kind of Sith lord and evil apprentice thing going, is that right?

I'm no apprentice but you're nearly there.

Whelp, time to get out the old lightsabre and go back to work …

Right after much thought and repeated listens of the tracks listed I've chosen "Junkie Slip" as the worst track. Just has nothing going for it. I don't find it awful but it has none of the fun/sillines of the CR B-sides.

Ah yes. If I could, I would change my vote to LTJ. I had forgotten all about that (rather forgettable) number.

I'm all about Outside Broadcast.
Not me. Favorite track on the 12".

Among other delights, Ellen Foley's vx are superb.

Kind of baffled that Hitsville UK is included. One of my favorite Clash tunes.

Love LTJ
Stop The World is pretty poor.

One of my favorites, too, especially considering what it's about. I also don't agree with including Crooked Beat, Ivan Meets GI Joe, and Lover's Rock -- all quirky little highlights that I don't mind revisiting, depending on the mood I'm in.

Hell, they thought enough of Ivan to play it throughout '81, even Topper was no great shakes as a singer!

Look Here's the only cover -- should we really count it? It's neither good nor bad, but it just kind of sits there. Stop The World is another one that registers a bing-bing-bing on the old meh-meter ("This is the Clash on Nyquil. Any questions?"), though I'd have to hear the corrected version to make a final judgment.

I don't mind First Night Back In London, either. It's basically a mood piece, one that best lends itself to late night listening (depending on how I feel). I've probably listened to it more than Long Time Jerk, though (sorry, Paul).

I wound up voting for Cool Confusion, which sinks under a skeletal, repetitive riff that goes nowhere, and obtrusive, gimmicky effects. What lyrics you can make out are quirky, but hardly stellar ("Long time I feel cold/To send Cinderella's shoe back" -- say what?).

So it wasn't a hard choice, though if I could have had more than one, I'd have put Junkie Slip right up (or down?) there, too. Sounds weak and undercooked, thrown together at the last minute -- appropriate, given the subject matter, but one that I skip with a clear conscience.
