Against all sense, I really dig it. I understand why it's mocked and dismissed, but it possesses a goofy appeal.

Seems appropriate to listen to the Ranking Roger version.

It is a good song. Paul's dubbed out bass, Topper's one drop rhythm. Paul's delivery is so off kilter, but strangely charming. Toss in Kosmo's Travis Bickle and Joe/Mick's somewhat sloppy backing vocals and you've got a really fun, goofy, weird song. I think the music is a great match for the dark, dingy tale of crime and justice that Paul sings about. You can almost feel yourself moving through NYC at night on the grimy subway - shadowy figures appearing and disappearing. An underrated track.

Anyone who puts this song over the majority of CtC are just wrong, sorry.

Right. It’s terrible song that I like anyway.

I think it would have benefited from a spacier/dubbier mix than the CR version. That Ranking Roger version rules. Fab tone poem thing.

Or just Joe's vocals.

The music bed, at least, is outstanding. One of the songs I show to any drummer I'm about to work with about the kind of drumming I like.

Topper is great on it. I remember a Terry interview where he said that song was too hard for him to learn. Too bad everything else on it is a clusterfuck.

The instrumentation and arrangement are pretty great as well.

Okay, all the vocals are god awful except Joe/Mick's little backing vocals.

I quite enjoy Paul's struggling-to-pass-his-ESL-final-exam approach.
