Clash compilation.

Post by Marky Dread »

I'm going to put together a new Clash comp based on the thoughts of folks here.
An updated version of The Story of the Clash. Remastered and with a tracklist chosen by us.

New title ''A good place under the lighting''

So how many tracks is sensible?
What tracks?

If he had rare songs it would be very good: for example, Armagideon time (live Kampuchea), White Man.. (RAR), Once You know, etc.

At the risk of alienating myself further, can we have CTC era represented more than with just TIE?

Well, the title implies White Man should be included. Obviously.

Groovy times, I’m not down, Armagideon times, Washintgon bullets all deserve more attention and appreciation.

As always with The Clash, omitting tracks from a collection is easier than choosing which ones to include..

I would use "Essential Clash" as a template personally, 40 songs, 2 CD's. Which is four more songs than Sandinista. ;)

I would also avoid rarities. Use the mindset that this is a comp that has to hook people in who have never heard the Clash before. That's what these comps are usually for.

Though I do still like TIE, Three Card is easily better.

Using the 40 song template and representing all albums and stand alone singles, a rough breakdown could be...

The Clash (4 songs)
GEER (4)
COL EP (4)
LC (7)
S! (6)
CR (4)
CtC (3)
Stand alone singles and b-sides (8)

Yeah. I think a two disc “essentials” whose mission statement is “convince a person who has never heard a Clash song of the greatness of their discography.” And I’d eschew rarities, as those appeal mainly to the already converted.
