White Man is one of those songs that every new listen reveals something different about the lyrics for me. And that says a lot about how Joe could write a song. To be able to listen to an over 40 year old song, and realize you have still have so much more of the meaning to figure out. I love the switch from him describing the night in the Hammersmith to more of a political/race thing. And that first time I figured out "If Adolf Hitler, flew in today, they'd send that limousine anyway" line, I was absolutely blown away.

For years I thought Joe just went ''huh-huh-huh looking for fun'' 'til I realised it was ''F-U-N looking for fun''.

Look, you have to establish context for these things. And I maintain that unless you appreciate the Fall of Constantinople, the Great Fire of London, and Mickey Mantle's fatalist alcoholism, live Freddy makes no sense. If you want to half-ass it, fine, go call Simon Schama to do the appendix.

Well I'll be damned, so it is! At first I thought it was: "And - you ain't." (as in, not just out looking for fun).Marky Dread wrote: ↑19 May 2019, 2:02pmFor years I thought Joe just went ''huh-huh-huh looking for fun'' 'til I realised it was ''F-U-N looking for fun''.
Then a few years later I decided it was: "N (nations)...UN (United Nations)."
Sometimes I think my misheard/understood lyrics in songs are cooler than the real ones.

I was actually singing "White Man" at work the other day at work and as I walked by the work station of a gal I've got a big crush on I was singing "Dillinger, and LeRoy Smart, and Delroy Wilson - your cool operator." (such cool names those cats had; and I like to sing the "operator" bit real sexy like!). And then further down the way I pass by da Big Boss Mon (pompous douchebag, he) - and what do ye reckon I was singing den, mon? "If Adolf Hitler flew in today...". I mon, timing an' riddim be everything, yo!
