A Tasty #eetweek Treat

Post by Flex »

This may be a niche interest, but I thought I'd share this little treat: the lauded original Japanese digital mastering of The Clash's catalog - obviously, sharing Cut the Crap.

For those who don't know, when CDs were first coming out the Japanese issues of the Clash's catalog were their own unique masterings. Usually considered a "best of both worlds" between the original US/UK masterings (which had good dynamic range, but muddy soundstage, etc.) and the new reissues the band put out a few years ago (which did a lot right, but also have a fair bit of compression).

This is from my own personal collection, a '91 clone of the original disk, and it may not be a Marky Dread Remaster but if you want to hear the album in an "official" capacity this is probably as good as it's ever gonna sound.

Link is available for 100 downloads or 7 days, whichever comes first: https://send.firefox.com/download/8f692 ... DnMNO3RaCg

Enjoy!

Okay okay, be calm be calm. *deep breath*

Thanks, man. Somehow I have more variations of this album than any other save the Beatles' Get Back.

Thank you Flexington. Any standout thoughts from somebody that's lived with them for some time?

On CtC specifically, some of the shitty sound I had attributed to the mix is more likely down to a bright, compressed master. Which doesn't make the base material good in any sense, but you can crank it up a bit more and really dig into the drum machine and terrace chants. A substantial improvement on the remaster that includes Do It Now as a bonus track (I haven't heard an original vinyl or any other CD pressings of CtC).

I love how he's more befuddled than angry with himself or depressed. It's a great tone.

As someone who does, I will test this analogy.
