remember getting a cd of CTC and then got another one a few years later. had some changes in the artwork. i can see the busking from movers and shakers. but it's grasping concepts. lyric wise: crazy how strummer could go from ginsberg narco on CR to kerouac dumbness on CTC and then his down to earth bukowski stuff on ET. it's a nice transition that i guess wasn't appreciated but i like it.

I would probably wear it out in public too. But that speaks more to how broken I am.

I do have to say the better these remasters sound, the more frustrating this album gets. It didn't have to turn out the way it did. Even a mediocre mix would've saved it. The flashes of semi-competence keep peeking out like rays of sun through stormclouds, making it all the more heartbreaking when the downpour of suck falls on your little parade.

Bernie gets all the flack. But I sincerely think Joe sabotaged his own record.

Two questions then:
1) Consciously?
2) Why would he do that?

I can perhaps appreciate his depression encouraging a loss of purpose and all, but it doesn't seem in character to release something that fans would think is a rip off. As much as he may have been engaging in a self-loathing at some level, I have a harder time believing he'd deliberately fuck over his fans.

I'm with Doc.

I think Joe realised at the last minute it had turned to shit and did a runner.

I thought the story was that he had already done the runner and CTC was what we got when Bernie was left completely to his own devices.

1. Yes Joe knew the band couldn't cut the mustard.

2. Because Mick wasn't coming back.

I think Bernie just ran even more amok after Joe did a runner. I very much doubt it sounded in great shape when Joe did his flit.
