The Clash Goes to Court!

Well, this is an interesting one.

Following up on the story, however, has given me a look at the band's corporate structure:

It started out with 3 directors: Joe, Mick, and Paul in 1991. Joe was also listed as secretary from August 1991 through December 22, 2002. Paul then took over as secretary. Topper was added as a director in September 2012.

From what I recall, Dorisimo Limited was originally set up to handle songwriting for Paul and Topper in the late 1970's and then revived at some point (I think when they were co-producing Westway to the World). That would have been 1999/2000.

Really?

I don't see any theft of trademark. What about Clash magazine?

All their company stuff (Nineden as well) is freely available online as all company records are, including financial turnover etc, it makes interesting reading. It's kinda ironic that they make more now than they did when they were together and I don't begrudge them a penny. They were wise enough to keep their own publishing, so many bands didn't have the foresight.

I just ran them through the trademark database and saw that they filed an amendment in August to cover: tennis shoes, sneakers, jackets, sweat shirts, hoodies, zip through hoodies, sweaters.

Dating back to 1976, so definitely a long presence!

I wonder if that bootleg was put together by the same people that did the Pistols one with a picture of Ian the lead singer of The Worst on a golf green.

Wasn’t that something to do with Topper getting clean and sorting his life out.

He got clean much earlier than that.

Yes but didn’t he keep his head down and stay away for several years.

This sounds right and 1) it's great that Topper has turned his life around and 2) it's great that he was brought back on board.

Hello,

The headline (The Clash Sues Wilson Over Its ‘Clash’ Tennis Rackets) is incorrect. It should read "The Clash's Lawyer Sues Wilson Over Its ‘Clash’ Tennis Rackets". I'm pretty sure I can guess where most of the money will end up.
