Guardian - 40 Greatest Songs ranked
www.theguardian.com/music/2020/jan/09/t ... ngs-ranked
Plenty to disagree with but not many surprises; White Man No.1 but Hitsville UK No 21!
The pages of comments entertaining too

Recall a similar list of late where hitsville was ranked comically at 3. I dont mind it but 21 is still far too high. If i believed the clash had only recorded 20 better songs than hitsville uk, i doubt I'd consider myself a huge fan.

Rudie Can't Fail at 30 is way too low considering we decided it was their best song ever when we did that massive poll last year...

It's a song I don't hate, but I don't really love. It's not top-30 for me.Low Down Low wrote: ↑09 Jan 2020, 10:28amRecall a similar list of late where hitsville was ranked comically at 3. I suspect that Hitsville makes these lists because it was released as a single and list compilers feel obliged to include singles.
Edit: Yet no “Radio Clash,” so fuck that idea.

Yes that is the one that jumped out at me. Rudie has always featured very highly in every poll we have done.WestwayKid wrote: ↑09 Jan 2020, 10:49amRudie Can't Fail at 30 is way too low considering we decided it was their best song ever when we did that massive poll last year...

Now I love Radio Clash but was never as keen on This Is Radio Clash which I assume you're referring to? The former has much better lyrics and a better mix.

Hello,
Yes - although I rate both highly. I once had a workout list consisting of different versions of both along with live versions. I think it was about 45 minutes long.

Another example of outstanding journalism from the Grauniad. Courtesy of this definitive and well researched piece, I now know, after all these years, that CC Rockers was a reworking of an old 101ers song, and that Keith Levene played guitar on the recording of What's my name? Is this guy for real?
I would omit GOB, Hitsville and SAEngland and replace them with City of the Dead, The Prisoner and All the young punks.
