I am a member of Clash City Collectors which is a fantastic site & is run by a couple of great guys - Robin & Patrick. The stuff on there is almost mind blowing. I was thinking of a smaller version of that isf anyone is interested? - Vinyl, CDs posters, tickets, badges/pins etc. The inspiration has come from JohnS who has a promo of SoSL. What are your thoughts please?
We could have a wants lists like Discogs?

Thankfully I'm getting a bit more for my money. I have just bought this set of Stranglers Japanese promo CDs.

Ebay you can still pick up bargains if you are lucky because you have to search for them and some sellers aren’t aware of the items rarity but with Discogs you get notified when something on your wants list comes on the market so everyone knows about it.deny wrote: ↑11 Feb 2020, 5:07pmI wouldn't know where else to look. Thai is the other thing that outs me off stuff if I haven't got enough knowledge - fakes & there are plenty about & there seem to be fakes of most things. the Clash City Collector site is very good for highlighting fakes - obviously all to do with the Clash. Is there a similar Two Tone site?101Walterton wrote: ↑11 Feb 2020, 9:51pmThink this is fake.101Walterton wrote: ↑11 Feb 2020, 2:39pmHere is another one I’d like starting at £199

I don't think so as the cat. numbers are correct. But a blank sleeve making it collectable just seems silly to me. I expect there are a ton of those blank sleeves so how you know if it was a genuine un-stamped one is anyone's guess.101Walterton wrote: ↑11 Feb 2020, 9:51pmThink this is fake.101Walterton wrote: ↑11 Feb 2020, 2:39pmHere is another one I’d like starting at £199

Re: Spirit of St. Louis
Exactly. The record is legit but even if it came in a hand stamped sleeve you can pick it up for way less. The fact it is in a blank sleeve doesn’t make it more valuable in fact less so as there is nothing out there about blank sleeves. I could put a genuine 7” in an old blank sleeveMarky Dread wrote: ↑12 Feb 2020, 3:28pmI don't think so as the cat. numbers are correct. Plus there is a Google discussion group that has some great knowledge.
Re: Spirit of St. Louis
If they are anything like the sites that I mentioned before for the Clash then the information and experience of the members can be invaluable especially when one is thinking of making a very expensive purchase.101Walterton wrote: ↑12 Feb 2020, 5:35pmYes I Use this one: http://2-tone.info/deny wrote: ↑12 Feb 2020, 3:23pmThai is the other thing that outs me off stuff if I haven't got enough knowledge - fakes & there are plenty about & there seem to be fakes of most things. the Clash City Collector site is very good for highlighting fakes - obviously all to do with the Clash. My lack of detailed knowledge has certainly put me off buying posters & some vinyl at the high end of the market as I do not want to take the risk of buying dodgy stuff.
I am also very fussy in that I like to buy stuff that is mint or near mint so that it looks great. I do not understand someone who buys an extremely rare & expensive Clash single but the condition of it is very poor. Don't get me wrong - each to their own etc but paying a lot of money for stuff that is in poor condition is not for me.

Re: Spirit of St. Louis
I guess it comes down to how rare it is. I won’t buy a vinyl record for my collection no matter how rare if it doesn’t play properly both sides but some people do.deny wrote: ↑12 Feb 2020, 6:36pmIf they are anything like the sites that I mentioned before for the Clash then the information and experience of the members can be invaluable especially when one is thinking of making a very expensive purchase.101Walterton wrote: ↑12 Feb 2020, 5:35pmYes I Use this one: http://2-tone.info/deny wrote: ↑12 Feb 2020, 3:23pmThai is the other thing that outs me off stuff if I haven't got enough knowledge - fakes & there are plenty about & there seem to be fakes of most things. the Clash City Collector site is very good for highlighting fakes - obviously all to do with the Clash. Re: Spirit of St. Louis
Here is the hand stamped sleeve £25.50 - never heard of a rare ‘blank sleeve’ why would there be one? Suggest they either took it out of a 2 Tone sleeve or sleeve was damaged so put it in a plain one.Marky Dread wrote: ↑12 Feb 2020, 3:28pmI don't think so as the cat. numbers are correct. It is like those records where the vinyl mix was off so they have a slight red translucent look when held up to a light. People try to charge $$$$$$ as a ‘ruby red edition’ but really they are just manufacturing faults.

Yeah not really a manufacturing fault though and not exactly a rarity either. I had a Sham 69 12" that when held up to the light is appeared translucent red(ish). It wasn't purposely issued as a coloured vinyl but pressed that way.101Walterton wrote: ↑12 Feb 2020, 9:04pmHere is the hand stamped sleeve £25.50 - never heard of a rare ‘blank sleeve’ why would there be one? The idea of an un-stamped sleeve is nuts.

Regarding SOSL, I've thought for quite sometime that the better play would have been to put out Hitsville UK b/w Torchlight as a non-LP single & moved on

I wished they had cut Hitsville with Joe singing the lead and Mick doing the backing. It's a great tune with a great subject for the lyric.RockaPhillyClash wrote: ↑20 Feb 2020, 1:13pmRegarding SOSL, I've thought for quite sometime that the better play would have been to put out Hitsville UK b/w Torchlight as a non-LP single & moved on
