Added Vanilla tapes and I think I'm about as far as I can get. Any more info on London Calling-Combat Rock is appreciated.

*edit* added some random 1982 info.

The Stay and Casbah vocal retakes were recorded ay Glyn Johns Home studio.
Thanks, I read that in Passion shortly after the last update and will revise accordingly. As Hes noted, I believe it is just Stay and KYR.
Ghetto Defendant had its vocal re-recorded at some point too.
Is the Sound System version the Rat Patrol version?
Yeah, pretty sure it is.
There's a tiny, tiny hopeful part of me that says you guys are running a Kaufmanesque long con on the board

GEER info :

It's Dennis Ferrante not Ferranti as on the GEER sleeve and the CoL EP.
Also it's Chris Minto and not Mingo.

The version of Garageland from the Rude Boy movie that is made to look like it's Rehearsal Rehearsals is actually Black Hole Rehearsal studios, London.

When did they stop using RR?

When Bernie left and wouldn't pay the bill. ;)

There are more tracks from the Mickey Foote produced Beaconsfield session from Jan '77.

I'm So Bored with the U.S.A.
Janie Jones (Instrumental)
White Riot
White Riot (No backing vocals)
London's Burning
Career Opportunities
1977

Also the Julian Temple promo videos recorded at Beaconsfield are different versions to the January session.

Thanks MD. I'll update accordingly, though I won't include the instrumental and "no backing vocals" as they are the same songs as the vocal versions.

I'll add the April 77 Beaconsfield ones as well (eventhough London's Burning is a "live" b-side).
Look, you have to establish context for these things. And I maintain that unless you appreciate the Fall of Constantinople, the Great Fire of London, and Mickey Mantle's fatalist alcoholism, live Freddy makes no sense. If you want to half-ass it, fine, go call Simon Schama to do the appendix.

I think I made all the changes noted in the previous page. One thing, on Return of Last Gang, they mention the filming was in Dunstable. That's not the same as Beaconsfield, right?

Beaconsfield is about 40-45 mins drive away from Dunstable. It's always confused me and I've never been certain if it's a mistake. The Mickey Foote demos were recorded at Beaconsfield film school so it would make sense to me that the promos were filmed there.

The Complete Clash (pag. 247) says Dunstable 17 April 1977. London's Burning (live) has become the B-Side of Remote Control, so the first official recording of Topper Headon.

Yes Toppers first official recording.

I would love more info on Dunstable. Like where in Dunstable exactly which venue. All the info I've ever seen just says CBS promo film, Dunstable.

I just found out (38 years later) that the chemist shop used in Madness’ House Of Fun video was across the road from my flat in Walterton Road!! I never clicked 😕

"Groovy Times Are Here Again"

Recorded at Utopia studios May '78. This is the rough sounding demo which I think is Pearlman.

I agree with CK that Gates of the West and Groovy Times sound very much like Pearlman productions in the vein of Blue Oyster Cult. Then they were finished of (mixed) by Bill Price at Wessex Sound, Highbury, London.

(White Man) in Hammersmith Palais.

Two versions the official 7" single and the RAR version.

Both versions are the same backing track with different vocal takes.

You have it listed as February 1978 CBS studios.

But I think it was part of the Marquee sessions originally from March 1978 that was produced by Mick Jones and using Simon Humphrey as the engineer.

Then the second vocal take that is the single version produced with Pearlman in April.

Yeah, but it’s also likely that they cut “Ooh Baby Ooh” with Sandy, and then when it didn’t make the short list for GEER, wrote the new “Gates” lyric and cut the new vocals with Bill. No idea where “Rusted Chrome” fits into this, perhaps Joe’s first attempt at a new lyric for the riff, maybe to try at the Automatt?
