Cost Of Living EP write-up

Post by JohnS »

I've just discovered a blog by journo Andrew Collins, describing his 143 favourite songs in the world.
6 years ago he wrote a great piece about Groovy Times and the Cost of Living EP. Forum members of a certain age may find themselves nodding in misty-eyed agreement as they read this. His write-ups on similar stuff from the time are good too.

Not a bad read, at all. Gets off to an iffy start, mind. In what universe could the Smiths be challenging the Clash in the rock pantheon? Admittedly I'm biased for and against in that equation but i dont see it as being close. I dont love GT as much as him, but it is a fascinating song, great lyric with such a lush, melodic backing tune for 1979 clash. Amazing what they were capable of around that time, really.

The most underrated song in the Clash catalogue for me.

Thanks for that.

Right, I don't trust Andrew Collins...and he's got a bleedin' cheek still dining out on The Smiths when he did his level best to destroy Morrisey's solo career – to sell copies of the NME. Look up the put down 'student' and you'll see a picture of this gormless tosses (and his buddy Macoine.)

Given the comments above this was very timely. Can't imagine who he is talking about!

Great stuff laxman, thanks, I would've missed that. Another 'nod your head - and smile - while reading' job (for me)

Yeah I bought and read that. I find Luke Haines tongue in cheek humour very funny. And yes he is correct about over earnest fans of any group. No one is sacred.
