This comment is just so true.Flex wrote:Until Sony actually starts distributing the cd to stores (my local record store has had regular & special editions on order and been unable to get them in, we'll see what happens tomorrow) I have zero complaints about people downloading the album. Not that anyone was asking me anyways, but I just wanted to point that out.
I also, as a philosophy, support the "try before you buy" method. The artist should have to earn our money. Even MySpace pages and the like will often only have 1-3 of the best tracks off some bands new album. And you know what hat usually means? The rest of it probably sucks but they want you to buy it anyways and not be held accountable for totally phoning in an album. Screw that.
Sorry, got off on a bit of a tangent there.

My copy's on order from HMV. I'm hoping it comes today or tomorrow.
I don't have too much of a problem with people downloading it for nuffink. Artists and record companies have to adapt to the new distribution model - that's change and that's progress. They certainly ripped us off plenty in the 70s, 80s & 90s. Interesting too that Mick and Tony are happy to distribute a lot of their CSi stuff for free.
I think the point that if it sells the record company will put out more stuff is a good one.
And, it does sound as though a lot of effort has been made on the sound and packaging.
As for the geezer that doesn't bother listening to The Clash anymore, well, you know what they say, tired of The Clash tired of life.

Maybe I´m too old and/or too paranoid but the "try before you buy" method worked for years by going into a shop, hearing the record and deciding if or if not. I don´t need unofficial downloads.

You know, I don't have a record player, but this CD could be well-served by a vinyl rip.

I just have so much music I want to listen to and so little time to do it in--I've spent years listening primarily to one band. It's time for me to set that to the side and listen to something else.
I feel that there is a fascistic element, for example, in the Rolling Stones . . .

You probably answer this question elsewhere but - forgive me - I'm new...
What is that "something else" that is giving you musical satisfaction?

The list is much too long to detail.nigeyb wrote:Well I can dig that eumaas.eumaas wrote:I just have so much music I want to listen to and so little time to do it in--I've spent years listening primarily to one band. It's time for me to set that to the side and listen to something else.

According to my spies, the list isn't that long: Abba/Yoko Ono mash-ups, Shania Twain, Paula Abdul, and John Tesh.eumaas wrote:The list is much too long to detail.nigeyb wrote:Well I can dig that eumaas.eumaas wrote:I just have so much music I want to listen to and so little time to do it in--I've spent years listening primarily to one band. Go to the MegaList and "try before you buy." Then support the arts. You needn't buy Clash toiletries or Clash haberdashery, but don't take bread off of their tables.
Re: Try before you buy - Shea Stadium CD
From a business stand point, Live at Shea was the first complete live show Sony had to release.
I know all of the diehards (including myself) would have liked a different show but the live releases have to start ?somewhere.
I bought the Deluxe Edition online and received it one day after the official release. I've enjoyed it both times through and I'm glad I bought it. There's something to be said for the packaging that comes with the discs of the bands you really like.
As for torrents and downloads... I've done my fair share and then some. I like all kinds of music and I don't have a disposable income. I'm very cautious when spending for discs. I want to be sure, as Joe said in an old MTV interview, that it's something "I can grab hold of and leap out of the space shuttle with."

Re: Try before you buy - Shea Stadium CD
I downloaded the Shea two weeks ago... but still bought the cd... Don't see the problem.... If you want something good, buy it. Most torrent sites have lossy mp3,wma... and that can't beat a cd.... (don't mention the lossless flac/shn/ape). No way I would just download anything from The Clash to "save" money... it's just as a teaser.... and a hell of a better teaser than the 20 sec clips on Amazon etc.

You can rarely do that anymore. Certainly not with this release.jjhum wrote:Maybe I´m too old and/or too paranoid but the "try before you buy" method worked for years by going into a shop, hearing the record and deciding if or if not. I don´t need unofficial downloads.

Joe was known for his love of low tech non gadget music boxes and record players. He had disdain for MP3 players.
I think that the only way to do this album justice is to find a vinyl copy and listen to it on this.
