EET week is on us, rejoice or repent

On goes the album in the car this week. Dictator may sound like a thousand radios on at once but there's a good song buried there.
Re: EET week is on us, rejoice or repent
Cool Under Heat is a strange one, could be a good track if it didn't have the football fan chorus and if the guitar didn't sound like a fucking chainsaw.
Re: EET week is on us, rejoice or repent
I played Dictator for my almost 3 year old daughter: "I like this song."
I played Play to Win for her: "I don't like this song."

Look, you have to establish context for these things. And I maintain that unless you appreciate the Fall of Constantinople, the Great Fire of London, and Mickey Mantle's fatalist alcoholism, live Freddy makes no sense. If you want to half-ass it, fine, go call Simon Schama to do the appendix.

The fall tour that never was is an interesting dream. Given they had dropped all their new album material in 85, what the hell would this tour have been? Would they have just continued to play the new material like they did in 84? Given the one CTC hold out that made it to 1985 (Three Card) got a ska-ish make over that somewhat resembles the CTC version, I imagine they would have employed a similar approach. I don't know what the fuck they would have done to Dictator though.

Remarkable growth in critical acuity in three minutes.

SMR and Do It Now are underrated.

No, SMR is up there with the worst songs they ever recorded. Toe curling.
I liked Do It Now better than This Is England at first. That 7" was the first new Clash product I bought as a Clash fan.

It's not good but I'd sooner listen to it than say, Death Is A Star.
Do It Now however is half decent, after you get past Sham 69, there's an ok song there.
I bet you wished you were born 9 years earlier!
Re: EET week is on us, rejoice or repent
At least it shatters the myth that the album would have sounded good with real drums. Fuck the mix, the bass drum is the loudest thing on that song.BitterTom wrote: ↑15 Jun 2020, 6:14pmIt's not good but I'd sooner listen to it than say, Death Is A Star.

Dictator has to be the most EET song of 83-85 period. The Cut the Crap version is the end and the beginning. I'm listening now with headphones and it's unlike anything I've ever heard. It continues to astound. Joe is saying something under the second chorus, but it's probably the second most quiet thing on the track behind the bass. There is so much to it, I can never let it go.
His adlibs are just wild on this track too.

I tend to agree that it's the Cut-the-Crappiest song on the record. It's just cacophonous dystopia with superficial "political" lyrics. PTW and F-poppin' are worse because they're just garbage, but Dictator wants to be something significantish. That magnifies the failure and makes it more interesting. Really, it merits inclusion on a proper compilation as much as TIE.matedog wrote: ↑15 Jun 2020, 6:23pmDictator has to be the most EET song of 83-85 period.
