I chose "Are You Red...y" but that's because you said "favorite," as opposed to best. I think North and South is a better song overall, but I like Red...y more.

Wow, I didn't know I had an Are You Red...y ally. The consensus on the song is usually very bad.

It's fun! I can't say it's brilliant, but it's a delight (the terrible production works for it). But I warn you: i still prefer the live arrangement.

On a different day I might have picked Three Card Trick, because that ska version ALMOST works.

"North and South" has a certain lament or wistfulness that conveys more real emotion than anything else on the album. Grading on a curve is a helluva thing, tho.

My favourite from that era, Three Card Trick. Great track. North & South not far behind.

Are You Red..Y just edges Three Card Trick in my universe. Mover and Shakers could have been a contender until the chorus and synth starts. North and South does nothing for me.

There's a soulful ballad that creeps out now and then on North and South. The bridge disintegrating into a brief rest (maybe the only space on the record) before the final chorus is really nice. As is the rare vocal harmony. Three Card Trick is similarly *almost* there, so it's a very very close second for me. It doesn't help that the live versions are 100x better (can't say that about N&S), so that has to diminish the album version for me. I was familiar with the Dope version first, so CTC was quite the shocker and it took me awhile to appreciate its jaunty almost ska.

Hello,

I don't remember much of Cut the Crap - every other Clash album has been almost completely memorized - but I can recall "Law and order is a baton in the ribs...".

Every year when this comes round and the discussions start I have to check what all the song titles relate to, other than TIE and We Are The Clash ( which I hate) nothing will stick in the memory bank.

I really don't know how a song like Three Card Trick won't stick. Even as recorded it is better than at least 12 songs on Sandinista and nearly half of Combat Rock.

As soon as I hear the opening chord I know it but sitting here now that dong title means nothing

Prolly North and South - it seems to best get at what Clash II could have been in a different reality. Three Card Trick is a fine one too.
