Any ideas anyone? As I’ve now got time on my hands, and inspired by Marky’s efforts on this, I dragged a box of cds/cdrs out of storage with a view to ripping them to hard drive. One of them was the “This is Radio Clash” double cd (snotty snail) of Bonds. I am aware that this is the same mix as Bondage at Bonds and Chaos in New York etc... However, there was a third unlabelled/unmarked CD-R in the case (which I obviously picked up from somewhere). Played it and it is an 18 track edited version of the same gig but with a superior mix (sounds pro mixed to me). Backing vocals right up in the mix etc... Any ideas what it is? Age is a terrible thing...
This sounds like the mysterious "Bonds 1981" CD that Robin discovered (nearly 20 years ago!) — https://www.sharoma.com/clash/bonds_1981.htm

I think we lost the original thread when the board rebooted, but he saved TeddyB's observations in the link above. IIRC, It definitely sounds like a professional mix, above and beyond a simple recording off the board.

So is this definitely from the 4th June?
BMC would suggest it is 9 June?

Straight to Hell CD etc - FM source – Sound 5 - time 100 min – master? – tracks 24
FM Broadcast CD1 – FM source (unknown radio) diff. Mix – Sound 4 – time 72 min – tracks 18
This FM Broadcast appears as Trick or Treat (mine is speeded up). Min eis also clipped around Track 14 onwards

FM Broadcast CD2 – FM source (unknown radio) diff. Mix – Sound 5 – time 72 min – tracks 18
This FM Broadcast starts off with annoucer saying "you need to get ready for this concert because we are going to Rock the Casbah"

FM Broadcast CD3 – FM source diff. Mix (WNEW) – Sound 5 – time 72 min – tracks 18
First words are "Clash in Concert" contains several more radio segs - different FM broadcast to above. ID as WNEW.

Audience cdr - clear - - aud. master - Sound 4 - time 97min - d-mast - tracks 24
From Here To Eternity - 4 tracks,

Clash On Broadway 1 track

I don't have any other Bonds shows at hand, but comparing this Call Up from the Bonds 81 CD against the 4th/9th should give us the answer.

Hello,

I'm always very curious to read about these shows including the bootlegs emerging for the residency. I'm still kicking myself for not going (I was living in Queens at the time) although I remember having plans to go squashed by the initial fire marshal thing - but to my point...

The Sharoma website has several good upgrades of shows. I downloaded the "downmix" (not sure what that means) of Stop Making Sense and it sounds sharper/better to my ears. I just wanted to share and thank whoever runs that site.

I think the Talking Heads back catalogue were reissued as double CD/DVD editions. I suspect the "downmix" was the guy who runs that site version he did himself from the DVD.
Hello Marky,

I'm sure you're correct. The tag for each track includes (Feature Film 5.1 downmix). I wish I had the same treatment for The Name of This Band is Talking Heads. It's not on the list of downmixes.

Great stuff Marky!!

Always loved that version of 'The Call Up' from the 28th May much faster than the studio version. Sounds even better now ;)
Somebody was trying to tell me that CDs are better than vinyl because they don't have any surface noise. I said, "Listen, mate, "life" has surface noise."
