Unreleased working mix of Stay Free

Post by Heston »

To my knowledge this mix has never been in circulation before. Pristine sound and a different take to all the versions on the GEER demos...

Also a big upgrade on All the Young Punks from the same sessions...

There's a tiny, tiny hopeful part of me that says you guys are running a Kaufmanesque long con on the board

Great stuff Heston, thanks! Are you able to share how we might be able to download our own copy of these?

I think so. Basically the album versions with guide vocals and before they got all the guitar overdubs. They were on a tape handed out by Joe at a car boot sale in Marin in early 1979.

Fantastic start to my day! Thanks Hestion, a wonderful surprise that new discoveries are still turning up. Those GEER sessions demos have been crying out for upgrades for years, and yes, Stay Free in this form is all-new to me.
Hopefully ithey don't get zapped off Youtube, so a download link at some stage would be the icing on the (Christmas) cake.

Cheers John. When I stumbled across these on a random website I assumed they would be the usual GEER demo takes but they are obviously a massive upgrade. And yeah, I've referenced Stay Free against all the other versions and it is definitely a unique mix. It has the vocal we see Mick laying down on Rude Boy but with guitars that aren't present on that version. It was when I heard Mick's guitar solo at the end that I realised it was a mix I'd never heard before.

Thank you again, wonderful sounding, much better than the GEER demo collections.
