It was so hard to arrange the non-live tracks, I needed inspiration!

Have to say i was very sceptical about this, seemed a very high bar to clear for me. I considered this the one track on the album absolutely beyond redemption but hold my hands up, got it wrong. Not to say i could ever love it, but fuck it, its a song, a rock song even. The backing joe vocal in the chorus, whatever it is, really makes it. An outstanding job, hats off!

Thanks! I took the vocals in the chorus from the live version off the One More Time LP.Low Down Low wrote: ↑12 Feb 2021, 3:45pmHave to say i was very sceptical about this, seemed a very high bar to clear for me. Finished listening, this is an incredible creation and I'll be playing it instead of Cut the Crap from now on.

Just took a listen to these. Teriffic work GM. Thanks for all the time and effort you have put in. Sincerely appreciated mate.geraldmanns wrote: ↑12 Feb 2021, 12:02pmWell, like everyone I was extremely disappointed when CTC was released in 1985. I knew the new songs from different bootlegs, like Bring The House Down, Five Alive etc. All the years after I was hoping for the existence of some mastertapes that were smuggled out of the studio in munich by a mindful technician. But literature that was released decades later showed that Paul and Pete didn't take part in the recordings.
Last year I found two different audio editing softwares with different algorithms to separate vocals from an existing audio recording. The De-Berniator idea was born. So after ripping Joe's vocals from the tracks, cleaning them up (a lot of noisy bits, especially in The Dictator, had to be removed).
Next step was to get a good live performance of every song, copying Pete's drums beat by beat into a drum machine that sampled original drum sounds.
On songs The Clash didn't perform live I had to lay down the tracks in a Pete Howard stylee by myself. After that came listening, learning, rehearsing and recording guitars and basslines.
To get a better sound I had to buy a Les Paul to differ from my Telecaster sound (nice axe to have anyway). I had to add some backing vocals because the algorithms swallowed some of the football chants (didn't make them out as vocals). It took me a while to mix it all, but now it was time to kick it out of my house.
Especially in different Facebook groups are a lot of hate regarding the last line-up of The Clash. I think these were quite descent songs and a lot of fun to listen to now. For me, this is the CTC I expected and hoped for when it was released in 1985.
Feel free to spread these recordings wherever you like, maybe it will shine a better light on the last line-up.
Have fun!

There's some amazing music software now that can peel apart audio in ways that would seem impossible, but you still need musical skill to take those results and utilise them to this effect.
Ingenious and brilliant, geraldmanns - thanks for sharing.

You know I jest. I'm one of the few here to prefer CR to GEER. But a well worthy salvage job.

Very impressive salvage job, not least because Gerald cared enough to undertake it! Now that the music sounds better though, I still don’t love most of the lyrics.

This is astonishing. You've done the fandom proud, Gerald.geraldmanns wrote: ↑12 Feb 2021, 6:10amHey guys, found this strange device in some dark corner of the internet.

Re: The De-Berniator
I swear to God, this is exactly how I was hoping that album was going to sound after seeing those shows. I was hoping they wouldn't do something stupid and try to produce it themselves. I was hoping they'd punch up the hooks and give the songs a bit more harmonic depth.
This is the album that they made in another, better timeline.
The whole vibe reminds me of those 83 shows--Pete hammering away and those tastier, twangier guitars.
This is legitimately great, Gerald. Can you try your hand at Jericho and Glue Zombie?
