Joe gave a copy of his and Mick’s demo of Trans Cash to Josh Cheuse, so it does exist. Never heard of anything else. The “New Orleans” influenced stuff Bernie had them trying was in rehearsal and didn’t get very far.
Very interesting. I reckon the Clash would have actually been great during the 80s if they stuck together. Mick Jones definitely grew in a whole new different direction as a songwriter.

As someone really into 80s synthesizers and drum machines, cut the crap is fascinating. I sometimes half wish they made an entire album like Dictator. Just an hour of non stop atonal synth punk free jazz. That seems common in a lot of film soundtracks at the time. Just slam your entire arm across the keyboard. Lol

I can totally get this viewpoint. Maybe without the terrace chants, but would we then consider that noise album to be a step in a way braver area? Perhaps we would respect it more (if not listen to it any more frequently) if it were fully adventurous rather than straddling that quasi-rock/funky vibe.

Lol...true anarchy indeed! If Bernie's CTC vision was to be this apocalyptic audio assault or Blade Runner meets Mad Max synth punk, then cool idea. Maybe he thought his DIY approach to production would be authentically "punk"? But it still takes talent to produce good chaos versus crappy chaos. Mid-80s Negativland and Butthole Surfers made great tape experiments that sound like "hey, I can do that!" But it still takes talent. Bernie should have found the right experimental producer for the job.
