Oh shit you know what, I was thinking of the Jan 2 show. Were they doing a Tokyo residency for a month or something?
Jan 2 or Feb 2?
My dvd says Jan but Feb makes more sense.
I believe (I could look this up, but I’m lazy) that’s the best sound quality recording of that residency but also the lowest energy show because Joe was sick.
Yeah he definitely sounds it. I think I just like it so much just because it's a fully video recorded show and we have so few of them.

Mix is a bit wonky too. It’s like all bass. Which might explain Kory’s bass centric preference.
Paul's bass at its fartiest iirc.
We were talking about this a few months ago probably being a product of board mixes and DI boxes, but I'm watching some older stuff and musing on it—a lot of his farty playing can be blamed on P Basses, I think. They're pretty farty anyway, and if Paul's action was lower, which it kind of sounds like from some of the fret rattle, that will be multiplied. If you listen to older stuff when he was still playing the Ricky, his tone is a lot rounder and smoother. Compare also with Sid, who also played a P Bass and you get that same fart.
