Walk Evil Talk is damaged at the start of the track. However I've repaired it and clean it up.

Sound System though I think a clever edit between the official and Rat Patrol version could be great. Joe sings so much better on the re-recorded vocal. But the RP version has the extra verse and long outro.Kory wrote: ↑13 May 2021, 6:37pmOh wait I just realized, do we have Ghetto Defendent in good quality?

Glyn Johns was harsh on Inoculated City with his vicious editing. What a wonderful, ahead of its time, sound collage at the end.

Far superior in Mick's original form. BAD starts here for me.

Death Is a Star sounds so much more atmospheric with the heavy reverb. No longer sounds like it was recorded on someone's porch. I kinda really like it now.

Just checking back in to this thread, and pleased to see it's a bit of a find.
The bass on Straight To Hell grabbed me right away as sounding much clearer/louder, if not a whole new part completely.
I'm amazed the samples are of 2 full sides. A shame about the missing sides, but, glass half full and all that.
EDIT - I've just realised, the samples cover everything. The 2 acetates are single sided

The bass is over loud because it's brickwalled. But hey...JohnS wrote: ↑13 May 2021, 8:04pmThanks Doc.Dr. Medulla wrote: ↑13 May 2021, 4:29pmHere ya go, boogers: https://mega.nz/folder/kAsWlBjQ#Mg3W0MLwOOoQzIlOYQxy4Q

I can't believe it. Rat Patrol is my favorite album of all time, and I was actually just listening to Marky's mix on my drive home thinking "it would be great to get this in better quality." Problems aside, it sounds fantastic. It's so nice to finally get those last few tracks in really solid quality. Never really noticed the lovely little hi-hat parts during Know Your Rights, those are great. This is all just so cool to have now.

Re: Rat Patrol 2LP acetate
I was listening to my Rat Patrol mix in the car on Tuesday, opining that I'd probably never get to hear these mixes in better quality. Two days later, well, I've about died and gone to heaven. Inoculated City in all it's glory, the holy grail. So nice hearing all the samples clearly, and the space-echo'd guitars finally have some definition!!
But Car Jamming??? This is unbelievable. What an incredible version! The sliced and diced guitar cutting across the mix, criss-crossing drones and samples. This is just eons ahead of it's time. Mick, you genius.
If this makes the rounds among fans, maybe it puts a little pressure on The Clash camp to get an official version out there. If not, I'm okay with that. This is fantastic.

I almost get more angry thinking about this than anything to do with CtC to be honest. Maybe Johns had his reasons, but for a band whose whole raison d'etre had become exploring or pushing boundaries, it just feels like so much of s wasted opportunity. It's obvious now that there was far too much compromise of micks original vision. If even they could at least have met half way!

Re: Rat Patrol 2LP acetate
Rat Patrol was way better than Combat Rock with some great inventive ideas. Sure some vocal takes are better but the tracks were great as they were. Glyn Johns wasn't needed. Why they couldn't go with Mick's original tracks for the album and just do edits etc for the singles is beyond me.
