Rat Patrol 2LP acetate

Post by JohnS »

Double album acetate of 'Rat Patrol' up for sale, estimate £5,000-£10,000 !

https://bid.omegaauctions.co.uk/auction ... 8&pn=1&g=1

There's two lengthy audio samples available, which is a nice touch. Not sure if these can be grabbed...

Just as an FYI, the samples are full rips of each side and are downloadable. The sample rate is only 130 kbps, tho.

Interesting. I think we discussed this recently, but this is post double album Rat Patrol, pre Combat Rock?
Look, you have to establish context for these things. And I maintain that unless you appreciate the Fall of Constantinople, the Great Fire of London, and Mickey Mantle's fatalist alcoholism, live Freddy makes no sense. If you want to half-ass it, fine, go call Simon Schama to do the appendix.

We did, but I'm damned if I can find it. These came up on Facebook first but the guy quickly disappeared, possibly alerted to their value. Would be interesting to hear what is on them.

And considerable needle drop clicking & popping on both (at least to my ears).

Yup. But for free, can't really complain.

Also, if people can't dl from that source, I can upload what I snagged.

Oh, I totally agree. I should have been more clear, as a small time vinyl collector, I'm picky about the sound quality, I can't imagine paying that kind of money for vinyl that's not been treated with TLC like I do my stuff.

(Any reason to post a KotH clip.)

Any KOTH is great by me! So I just reread everything on the auction, it's probably not as much about the condition of the records (cover appears to have water damage) but more about being the original acetate pressings, which I get, very collectible.

Straight To Hell is definitely an unheard mix for starters, louder bass and percussion parts. And Know Your Rights sounds great so far. There are also little touches not present in other mixes. I'm really digging this, the mixing sounds much more advanced than the common Rat Patrol mixes. And much better quality too despite the crackles. This is a major find, I'm hoping the full contents come into circulation.
