By the by, Marky, I did my RAR lecture today and mentioned your experience at the big Victoria Park Carnival in '78. A little touch that perhaps makes the kids think I'm not full of shit. (Silly kids.)
Street cred!
Clearly, it's Marky's!
Marky for having been fortunate enough to have been there, you for actually knowing someone who can speak to it first hand.
Your classes sound like fun, wish it was that way back when I was in school.
God, what a mess, on the ladder of success
Where you take one step and miss the whole first rung

I do hope people here realize how much I value the conversations and sharing their experiences for helping me think about the dumb crap I talk about in class.
And you'd be amused how many students are bored silly—they thought it'd be a blow-off class with stories about Motley Crue fucking groupies. My secret pleasure is locating the visible regret in some faces in the first lecture as I outline the intellectual parameters of understanding rock music.

So my life experiences ended up being just some "dumb crap" for you to talk about in class!
I fought the punk wars for you sonny! You damn kids these days don't know how easy you've got it with your pandemics and your global warmings.
Forces have been looting
My humanity
Curfews have been curbing

No fuchsias for you.

My way of framing things turns it into dumb crap. I let the kids know that you were out there on the streets not taking shit from the fascists and racists, and you're sweet old fucker now.

In all honesty I think it's brilliant that you are taking time to present this stuff in a positive way. Punk has it's grey side with the use of Nazi imagery and attracting violence. But the positives are still life affirming. Keep doing what you're doing and keep that spirit alive.

Marky, this is soundcheck-tastic! Great idea to compile everything from the Pistols' final days like this.
Those radio appearances always crack me up too. Thanks.

I certainly highlight the dubious use of swastikas to shock and scandalize parents when there were actual fascists in the streets who didn't see that stuff as ironic but supporting, and could take punk's music and physicality for their own ugly purposes. If you ain't disgusted by a lot of punk-related behaviour and attitude, you're missing its real virtues.

Cheers Marky, I have never listened to this show. Thanks as always your brilliant work.
So January 1978 and in effect it was all over? In Clash terms, this was between Complete Control and Clash City Rockers being released, which feels so early in their career still.

Just sadly inevitable. Easy to blame the state of Sid but they replaced Glen quick enough. So yeah they could've carried on but too many behind the scenes shenanigans caused their demise. Somehow it seems correct for them to implode.
