An advantage of being old is that I was there. The disadvantage is that now I don’t remember a great deal about them. My favourites were the Lyceum 81 with the air raid sirens and the really long set and Brixton July 30 82 when they opened with White Riot. One detail I do remember is at the miner’s benefit gig 07/12/84. The gig had apparently finished, house lights were on and the crowd were leaving. Then they came back on and started playing Safe European Home - problem was everything was turned off. You can hear on the bootleg the amps and pa kicking back in at various stages of the song.matedog wrote: ↑15 Jan 2022, 8:06pmAnother person I’m insanely jealous of. Insanely jealous of your list of Clash shows and these BAD shows as well. I’m hoping BAD will reunite again at some point so I have a shot at seeing them since I’ve completely missed out on all of this!topperville wrote: ↑16 Jan 2022, 2:05pmBig Audio Dynamite:

I'm from the states, so my main associations are half the Adverts and Fawlty Towers, but I've always wanted to visit on my way out to Land's End.topperville wrote: ↑21 Jan 2022, 2:31pmThat would be correct! The Clash
Bristol 10/6/80
Lyceum 18/10/81
Lyceum 20/10/81
Lyceum 25/10/81
Brixton 10/07/82
Big Audio Dynamite
Kentish Town 28/11/85
Hanley 20/02/87
Joe Strummer and The Mescaleros
Amsterdam (Tibetan Freedom Concert) 13/06/1999
Brixton 24/11/2001
Acton 15/11/2002
Most memorable shows were Bristol on the 16 tons tour, possibly my favourite gig ever, plus BAD in London 85 and the Acton show where Mick Jones joins Joe & the Meskies onstage. Meeting the band backstage after Bristol and a Lyceum show, having a chat with Joe, was pretty special.

Be curious to know what kind of live show Topper delivered? Would have liked to have caught one but don't recall ever clocking them as a thing at the time.

Probably sounds like his solo album. Funkay.Low Down Low wrote: ↑25 Jan 2022, 8:00amBe curious to know what kind of live show Topper delivered? Would have liked to have caught one but don't recall ever clocking them as a thing at the time.

Re: Back to The Clash - Who has seen them and when?
May be my favourite Clash bootleg. We get the professionalism of the 82 gigs but with Topper still on the drums. A pro recording would be insanely good.HumphreyBear wrote: ↑13 Jan 2022, 11:55pmI saw them once - 23 Feb 1982 Melbourne - on the Far East tour.
A long set (maybe their longest ever) with 13 songs for the encore, including a couple from the forthcoming Combat Rock.
It was a hot summer night and they were amazing. I have written a long review some years ago that I sent to BlackMarketClash but it never was included. ?Too busy to do it again.
Best gig I have ever seen (and I've seen thousands). That night they moved from being one of my favourites to my favourite.
They still are.
There's a tiny, tiny hopeful part of me that says you guys are running a Kaufmanesque long con on the board
Re: Back to The Clash - Who has seen them and when?
Newcastle Mayfair 12th June 1980 (still the best gig I've ever been to)
Bridlington Spa 10th October 1981
Newcastle City Hall 14th July 1982
Also saw Joe fronting The Pogues at Newcastle City Hall December 1991 (iirc)

Gah, I would probably have been at the first three if I was born about four years earlier. A lot of my mates speak of the Mayfair gig, the bootleg is riotous. Was at the Strummer/Pogues gig, an excellent night.
