From a personal viewpoint, while it is a bit disappointing, I would just say the fact that these guys remain passionate and principled about their work all these years on, still even appear to carry some of the grievances with them while bearing each other no ill will, is as important to me as the form or content of any new release. I love these guys and fully respect their wishes.

Seems as though Paul still thinks ditvhing Mick was the right decision "at that time"Low Down Low wrote: ↑06 Apr 2022, 4:51amFrom a personal viewpoint, while it is a bit disappointing, I would just say the fact that these guys remain passionate and principled about their work all these years on, still even appear to carry some of the grievances with them while bearing each other no ill will, is as important to me as the form or content of any new release. Which is the same thing Joe would say if he were here, i think.

Joe had long since said getting rid of Mick was a mistake that he regretted. Even to the point of trying to get Mick to rejoin the group. Of course Mick had BAD and was looking forward.white man wrote: ↑06 Apr 2022, 5:41amSeems as though Paul still thinks ditvhing Mick was the right decision "at that time"Low Down Low wrote: ↑06 Apr 2022, 4:51amFrom a personal viewpoint, while it is a bit disappointing, I would just say the fact that these guys remain passionate and principled about their work all these years on, still even appear to carry some of the grievances with them while bearing each other no ill will, is as important to me as the form or content of any new release. I think Mick respecting Joe's wishes over the original Rat Patrol is very honorable to his departed friend.
We already have Rat Patrol in very good listenable condition. I doubt a full official release will improve much sound wise. So I'm really looking forward to this new release and hope it will include something we don't already have.

My 2p’s-worth…
I’m very pleasantly surprised that some sort of 40th anniversary version of CR is being released;
I’m enjoying the excitement and anticipation of waiting fir the details (even though it’s just minor tweaks and remixes, by the sounds of it)
But most of all I take great delight that an album which confounded and exasperated fans like me in 1982, will continue to do so even in this repackaged reissue
It seems that this version will be carrying on the CR tradition- a true Sony ‘legacy’ product
PS another word of thanks to TeddyB’s input to this forum- always welcome, often insightful and much valued

I think exactly this. Not surprised one bit, but still quite moved.Marky Dread wrote: ↑06 Apr 2022, 6:04amJoe had long since said getting rid of Mick was a mistake that he regretted. This is my position. If Mick et al don't want to release RP for what seems very defensible ethical reasons, good on them. More respect to them for not just chasing a couple more bucks. We should feel a measure of pride that they're operating on these kinds of principles. We have a proper copy of RP in circulation now and we can augment certain cuts with officially released versions. Even if all that comes out of this is a re-imagined Clash song, that's still more than what we had yesterday. It's all good.Marky Dread wrote: ↑06 Apr 2022, 6:04amWe already have Rat Patrol in very good listenable condition. I doubt a full official release will improve much sound wise. It's frustrating that neither Joe Or Paul had the hindsight, but then again, do any of us.

Re: Combat Rock 40th anniversary reissue coming soon?
Things are starting to trickle out. Looks like 5/20 release date. No official track list I can find but this 3xlp looks cool, I’m down for it.
Here’s a synopsis:
Originally released in May 1982, ‘Combat Rock’ is the final Clash album by Joe Strummer, Mick Jones, Paul Simonon and Topper Headon. It contains two of the band's best-known songs, 'Should I Stay Or Should I Go' and 'Rock The Casbah'. Now reissued in a special edition 180g 3LP, with 12 extra tracks! Returning to London after 17 shows at Bond's Casino in New York in 1981, the band rehearsed and recorded at The People's Hall in London and from there embarked on a tour of East and Southeast Asia, as evidenced by the cover image. The songs on ‘The People’s Hall’ cover the period from what was their last single Radio Clash to the release of Combat Rock, including unreleased and rare versions. It also includes rare images of Pennie Smith and an essay on Tom Vague’s Frestonia story.

What the hell is "He Who Dares or Is Tired"?
Look, you have to establish context for these things. And I maintain that unless you appreciate the Fall of Constantinople, the Great Fire of London, and Mickey Mantle's fatalist alcoholism, live Freddy makes no sense. If you want to half-ass it, fine, go call Simon Schama to do the appendix.

Can't help but be intrigued by the new bits.
Wiggle, wiggle, wiggle like a bowl of soup
Wiggle, wiggle, wiggle like a rolling hoop
Wiggle, wiggle, wiggle like a ton of lead
Wiggle - you can raise the dead
