Wonder if that old motto was being thrown around during both Theatre's and Clash's recording sessions and that's why it appeared as album / song title? Also, maybe it means the Clash song was recorded in August 81?

The opening drums and general feel of "Westworld" is very similar to that early "Know Your Rights".
Inspired by Antonin Artaud's book Theatre and its Double, the new band took its name from the concept of the Theatre of Cruelty.
Theatre of Hate inspired by Theatre of Cruelty.

So I've been playing "He Who Dares Or Is Tired" now if you had told me it was an outtake from "The Gift" by The Jam I wouldn't have blinked.
However The Jam recorded "Town Called Malice" at Air Studios, London in December 1981.
So The Clash recorded their track first. Uncanny possibly.
Now we all know about the Motown steal and The Supremes "You Can't Hurry Love".
But I think it's more likely taken from this.

I'd guess Sony has finally given on the Clash brand, judging by this mess. I know everyone will sneer at me for saying so, but they really should have included a bonus disc with the Boston Orpheum mixdowns that Mick and Bill Price worked on for FHTE. It would be a way of saying "Yes, we acknowledge it went totally pear-shaped in the studio and we ended up becoming every single thing we set out to destroy, as proven by the ponderous 8 minute Emerson, Lake and Palmer fake-jazz jams, Holiday Inn lounge-tier fake funk, Police cover-band cod-reggae and Sesame Street singalongs. But we got past all that and went down fighting, playing real Clash music on our last major tour."
Forty years on, it all seems so utterly incomprehensible. What the hell was Mick thinking? If Casbah hadn't hit, that album wouldn't even have gone gold. I think all the drugs and anorexia seriously impaired Mick's cognitive and decision making abilities. I don't think people generally understood the devastating effects all that could have on one's neurology.
Then again, I was just listening to the equally incomprehensible Upstarts LP Still from the Heart, so I guess jumping the shark was what all the cool kids were doing that year.
