I swear I remember Pop Up Video for RTC saying that Mick was upset at the time of filming, hence wearing the mask. Of course this is a memory from watching a video in like 1999, so I'm likely mistaken.

[Director] Don Letts: I was in Texas with the Clash to shoot “Rock the Casbah,” and Mick Jones showed up one day wearing red long johns, because he was in a mood. I said, “You really want to wear that for a video? If you look like a c— on film, you’ll look like a c— forever.” So he changed what he was wearing.

Mick Jones: I wanted to wear red long johns, but Don wouldn’t let me. That’s why I put a mosquito mask on my face, ’cause I was in a bad mood.
Lol @ Don's quote. And good on me for remembering the gist of that. Can't remember shit now, but my memories of the Blessed Decade remain strong.
Look, you have to establish context for these things. And I maintain that unless you appreciate the Fall of Constantinople, the Great Fire of London, and Mickey Mantle's fatalist alcoholism, live Freddy makes no sense. If you want to half-ass it, fine, go call Simon Schama to do the appendix.

And Don Letts did a Q&A during the premiere.
I asked if he was surprised when Joe removed Mick's face cover.
Did he answer?
Technically, no:

I'm sure I read that in one of the Clash bio's. Kind of an omen about his ouster from the band, too, about prima donna-dom.

My favorite part of that video, Joe ripping off Mick's face covering. Always got a laugh out of me, the surprise on Mick's face and how well he kept going with the song. I remember reading somewhere a while ago about the story of Mick and why he was wearing that and all I thought was how Mick Jones that was of him. Does anyone know what live concert, if it was even a real one, was filmed for the end of the video?

Now I know the real reason Mick was wearing the mosquito mask in the video. I thought it was because he wore it during some of the concerts.
I also thought Joe pulling the mask off near the end was scripted.

Everyone notices Mick's face after the mask is ripped off but not many notice Joe slipping just afterwards. Nearly ruins the perfect take.

I still think it's staged.

I've been playing this in my car and it sounds great. At first I just put some of the tracks from disc 2 at the end of the 12 original Combat Rock songs. Then I experimented with the song order and found I really liked this one:
Know Your Rights
Car Jamming
Should I Stay
Rock The Casbah
Red Angel Dragnet
Straight To Hell
Sean Flynn
Overpowered By Funk
Atom Tan
The Beautiful People Are Ugly Too
Ghetto Defendant
Inoculated City
Death Is A Star
Midnight To Stevens
Idle In Kangaroo Court

I liked the idea (I can't remember who had it) of starting the album with the more structured tracks and then just having it descend slowly into psych madness by the end of the 4th side (this being the RP tracks, of course). I'd still like to try that out.

I remember that.
I wish Cool Confusion was on the Peoples Hall disc.
I could have this as the last three tracks:

Cool Confusion
Sean Flynn
Death Is A Star

Cool Confusion was apparently cut at the last minute from Combat Rock, but they did have to find room for Outside Bonds remember
