Haven't personally heard this until now, very interesting. *Almost* like a halfway point between the album mix and The Cool Out, mainly in terms of everything not being quite as soaked with reverb. I think The Cool Out is the best form of the song overall mix-wise, and the ideal version would've been that + Joe's vocal. Still my favorite song on the album regardless (tied with The Street Parade ;) )

The more I hear stuff like this the more I want an actually complete Sound System style collection!

Anyone know if this is on that 'The Singles' CD box set?

I’ve got this on vinyl and haven’t listened to it in decades. Didn’t even realise until now that it’s a very different mix. And have no way of ripping from vinyl anymore. I can’t find any CD release… It’s not on the singles box set no…

Damn, this fucking slaps. That's the thing that drives me nuts about mixing/production. The main difference here (aside from the dropouts/other arrangement tricks) seems to be the kick and bass are pumped up and it totally supercharges it. Why the hell didn't this one make the album?

Yeah, seems like a fan mastering job with added reverb in places to me.
There's a tiny, tiny hopeful part of me that says you guys are running a Kaufmanesque long con on the board

You could be correct of course. Track length is 4.50 though so it’s certainly different to the album/single version. Maybe just an edit?

Yes it's another mix, which reminds me of listening to this version with headphones many years ago and telling myself that we heard Mick's voice much better especially in the second part of the song and at 3 37 on "there is a dance" we hear only him

although I still think the version above is compressed more than normal

there is also something to remember about vinyl, this guy explains it better than me

The 7" and 12" with the roulette wheel label contained "special mixes/lengths".

As Laxman send me his version I just compared the two versions via my cubase and the 12" is slower than the album version, but there is no pitch variation which is a bit strange
