If and only if i wonder what you would think

Post by NoMoreHugh »

I was chatting to Heston on another thread and this scenario came to my mind and was really interested what the forum thought

No right or wrong answer to this

If Paul reformed the clash today on his own and employed 3 very competent singers and musicians that were all unknown how do you think you would take that news?
Do you think you would feel excited and think its better than nothing or think i am right up for this.

I am really interested what an opinion would be.

I’m down but only if he called the group Havana & The Early Bird Specials… seriously though, I’m passing so hard I just zoomed past CK…on the right.

If it was done in a tribute kind of way and not straight up called The Clash then I see no harm whatsoever.

While I would be dead set against it if called The Clash I'm convinced it wouldn't bother some folk. Just look at the support Wayne Kramer has in releasing a new album as MC5.... I'm against that too.

Huge thumbs down, with active contempt as well.

If Paul wants to hire some young guns and go about doing some Tribute to The Clash show I'd consider seeing 'em if they came to Denver (I mean, I've seen The Nuns of Brixton multiple times) but absolutely not under the banner of "The Clash" at all.

That would be cool. But Joe and Mick's voices are impossible to replicate which is what always defeats me about tribute bands.

These hypotheticals are pretty outlandish to the point I'm not sure we'd need to entertain.
Look, you have to establish context for these things. And I maintain that unless you appreciate the Fall of Constantinople, the Great Fire of London, and Mickey Mantle's fatalist alcoholism, live Freddy makes no sense. If you want to half-ass it, fine, go call Simon Schama to do the appendix.

Pass. Although I'd still go for the opportunity to possibly meet him, the bigger issue here is that it goes entirely against his attitude toward any sort of looking back/nostalgia. I'd say he's the least likely member to do something like this, which would really make me suspicious about why it was happening in the first place.

Paul's probably lurking here looking for business ideas.

While this would never happen, so many bands from that time are doing something similar, aren't they?

There were a few Gang of Four tours where it was Andy and some other people. The latest incarnation is Jon, Hugo and Sara, I think — but Andy's guitar is as indispensable to Go4 as Joe and Mick's singing is to the Clash!

And of course I'd go to see it (tut-tutting all the way to preserve my cred 😎) — Paul Simonon on stage? And it's not tGtBtQ? Sign me up!
