The Clash and Friends
Is there enough material for an album where it's the Clash playing music with guest vocalists?
Mikey Dread - Rockers Galore
Tymon Dogg - Lose This Skin
Mikey Dread - Living In Fame
Mikey Dread - Radio One
Futura - Futura 2000
Ranking Roger - Rock the Casbah
Ranking Roger - Red Angel Dragnet
Tymon Dogg - Once You Know
Any more you can think of? I know there's the Ellen Foley Spirit of St Louis is The Clash but it doesn't feel like they're Clash style songs

Torchlight 100% sounds like a Sandinista song.Mark^Bastard wrote: ↑07 Jul 2022, 9:53pmIs there enough material for an album where it's the Clash playing music with guest vocalists?

Look, you have to establish context for these things. And I maintain that unless you appreciate the Fall of Constantinople, the Great Fire of London, and Mickey Mantle's fatalist alcoholism, live Freddy makes no sense. If you want to half-ass it, fine, go call Simon Schama to do the appendix.

Thanks I'll check it out, I couldn't "get through" that album the first time I tried!

I know he opened for them a few times as well as covering "Should I Stay Or Should I Go"

The Clash backed him on his song "Fingernails".

Didn't they play Joe Ely's 'Fingernails' with him once, when he was support act.
EDIT - in fact, yes, at the Monterey show where the above picture was taken
EDIT EDIT - Marky thinking along the same lines and beat me to it

Re: The Clash and Friends
Looks like they did it six times, I assume only with Ely. Monterey is a good boot. They played it at Lewisham so there’s a soundboard somewhere someday.

Forgot all about that one, thanks Marky.

I believe Joe Ely joined them on stage at the Hollywood Palladium show I attended in 10/11/1979 as well, but the sound on teh boot I have is pretty rough.
Here's a MP3 version of Marky's Remaster of the Monterey show, sounds really good.

Re: The Clash and Friends
Joe Ely's mentioned joining them on stage at Bonds for the show he opened so I'm assuming he played it with them there too. Would love to hear that one some day.Sparky wrote: ↑09 Jul 2022, 7:50pmI believe Joe Ely joined them on stage at the Hollywood Palladium show I attended in 10/11/1979 as well, but the sound on teh boot I have is pretty rough.

I think the "Stinkfoot" boot was their second time at the Hollywood Palladium on 6/18/1982, I didn't see Fingernails on the set list though.Marky Dread wrote: ↑10 Jul 2022, 6:39amThat boot was the "Stinkfoot in Hollywood" one if I remember.Sparky wrote: ↑09 Jul 2022, 7:50pmI believe Joe Ely joined them on stage at the Hollywood Palladium show I attended in 10/11/1979 as well, but the sound on teh boot I have is pretty rough.
