The Call Up 12" (special remix)
Re: The Call Up 12" (special remix)
A big thank you to Marky. My version didn't have the artwork, it is just a plain black sleeve.

Does it have that cool sticker on it? Or is it the generic Epic label one?laxman wrote: β25 Jul 2022, 2:15pmA big thank you to Marky. My version didn't have the artwork, it is just a plain black sleeve.

That was my reaction, too. I've never thought about TCU as upper upper echelon Clash, but this mix makes me think it's inner circle, for both content and execution.

Just the generic label, no sticker. I got it when it originally came out so HMV or some other store must have had it on import from the States, I don't remember sending off for it.Marky Dread wrote: β25 Jul 2022, 3:11pmDoes it have that cool sticker on it? Re: The Call Up 12" (special remix)
I have always loved TCU. I really like it's melancholy feel. That line "there is a rose..." get's me everytime. Not sure it's a top 3 but it's really solid. And yes this mix is vastly superior. I always wonder if the band had more time withSandinista! then other tracks would've been better executed.Dr. Medulla wrote: β25 Jul 2022, 4:18pmThat was my reaction, too. Yeah, there's this strange mix of call to action and resignation. Paradoxical, but it captures the essence of nuclear anxiety.Marky Dread wrote: β25 Jul 2022, 4:51pmI have always loved TCU. I really like it's melancholy feel. That line "there is a rose..." get's me everytime.

Yes that's it perfectly. "They gladly marched off to die" sums up all the sadness and the so called honour attached to defending a belief.Dr. Medulla wrote: β25 Jul 2022, 4:52pmYeah, there's this strange mix of call to action and resignation. Re: The Call Up 12" (special remix)
Yeah, I've always loved the lyrics for all those reasons and the concept is quite clever, but it always felt a bit limp. This definitely fixes that.Marky Dread wrote: β25 Jul 2022, 5:03pmYes that's it perfectly. Really quite delightful to still discover new ways for the clash to thrill after all this time.
A nod to KCPortland too for bringing this all up in the first place.
