Abysmal. Even worse than Springsteen's shit version.

I couldn't choose. Springsteen's was literally shit! when the "burning london" covers cd came out, i remember a nice version of clampdown by the Indigo Girls.

Tom Gribbin & The Saltwater Cowboys take on Guns Of Brixton. From 1981, the first cover of a Clash song released as a single?
I have a copy of that. I think they were playing the Wembley C&W Festival and wanted a 'local song' out as a single, so did this after someone played the original to them,
I remember hearing it on the John Peel show, apparently it was a session track when John Walters was sitting in for him.

Maybe that's true. My story came from a family friend who's ex-husband was involved with the whole shebang, but as neither were interested in The Clash their recollections might be vague to say the least. Pretty crap cover version anyway. Besides, I remember John Walters sitting in for Peel on occasion and playing old sessions he'd been involved in, rather than new stuff. Or have I got that wrong?

Sounds correct to me, I reckon Tom Gribbin recorded GOB for the Peel show around the time of his visit to the UK for the Wembley C&W Festival in 1981.

Took a lucky dip and one of those i landed on was Are You Ready by the Scotch Bonnets. Seriously good cover, shame they've only the one on the comp.

The Scotch Bonnets are great
Wiggle, wiggle, wiggle like a bowl of soup
Wiggle, wiggle, wiggle like a rolling hoop
Wiggle, wiggle, wiggle like a ton of lead
Wiggle - you can raise the dead

Pex Lives!
