Please help dating some tracks from Clash on Broadway
Hello,
I would like to know the (official) release years of the following tracks, I expect they were single b-sides or such :
- Janie Jones (demo)
- Careeer opportunity (demo)
- Red Angel Dragnet (edit)
- Ghetto defendant (edit)
- Rock the casbah (US single version)
- Should I Stay or should I go (US single version)
- Straight to Hell (unedited version)
And this one if mind-bugging...
- Cool confusion
Because... I had in mind that it first came on Super Black Mark Clash ( and this is what this Clash wiki start: https://clash.fandom.com/wiki/Cool_Confusion ) ... but it is the on Clash on Broadway's third CD, from 1991 ... but Super Black Mark Clash is from 1993 .
But at the same time, in my mind Clash on Broadway had 3 unreleased tracks which were One Emotion, Every Little Bit Hurts and Midnight to Stevens. Then, back then, was Cool Confusion a fourth unreleased track?

- Rock the casbah (US single version) As noted, it's the single version that has some minor edits/effects. It would have been released in 1982.

- Straight to Hell (unedited version) - Full "Rat Patrol" version. Previously unreleased until the Clash on Broadway box.

Look, you have to establish context for these things. And I maintain that unless you appreciate the Fall of Constantinople, the Great Fire of London, and Mickey Mantle's fatalist alcoholism, live Freddy makes no sense. If you want to half-ass it, fine, go call Simon Schama to do the appendix.

Found this. It's a different mix/slightly different arrangement than the COB/SBMC version for sure. There's a lot more snare, the intro is slightly different. It's Cool Confusion, so I don't feel like listening all the way through and find out why it's 20 seconds shorter, but to answer your question, the COB is a version that was new as of Clash on Broadway and appears to have usurped the original b-side version as the "official" version.

This b-side version of "Cool Confusion" (with guitar) has yet to be released on CD. Only a stripped-down version without the guitar power chord track has been released on various box sets.

I figured Marky would swoop in with the definitive details.
Maybe it's the lack of familiarity, but I think I prefer the now erased from history b-side version. Some added distorted guitar and a snare backbeat peps it up a bit compared to the pretty sparse subsequent version(s).

Yes. MIck would actually have attempted this with the multi-tracks but there’s no vocal on the Essential version and they haven’t resorted to A.I.
