Re: Marky's new remasters thread
Thank you Marky for your work on all the Generation X stuff. As a band that's been largely ignored by any record company re-issue effort. Your special editions have been truly enlightening.
I'm amazed at all the background detail you have discovered. The booklet for the Kiss Me Deadly material has pictures I've never seen and details that are new to me. Paul Cook played on Rock On, that's something I didn't know. An alternative source for Paris Theatre, again thank you very much.
I will listen to your work over the weekend and like many people on this board, enjoy the real groundwork of music and style that propelled Idol to huge success in the 80's.
Marky you are a true scholar, thank you

Thanks mate. I had to do a fair bit of reading for the info with some conflicting stuff. Tony James said when recording Dancing with Myself they initially had two drum kits set up with Terry on one and Cookie on the other but it didn't really work. You can hear Terry only on DwM but you can clearly hear two kits on Rock On just like the Glitter Band. Billy says Jonesy plays on 5 tracks but my ears can only hear his meaty rhythm on 4. Of course memories of a time of heavy narcotic use doesn't help.Telecaster wrote: ↑20 Jun 2025, 5:55amThank you Marky for your work on all the Generation X stuff. Neat. I never knowed that feller who does the Workday commercials had a rock n roll combo once upon a time. Thanks as ever, M.

Billy says you could have seen him in Oliver Stone's The Doors movie but you may have nipped out for popcorn.Dr. Medulla wrote: ↑20 Jun 2025, 1:14pmNeat. I never knowed that feller who does the Workday commercials had a rock n roll combo once upon a time. Thanks as ever, M.![]()

Now I'm imagining Billy Idol in every Oliver Stone movie, always doing the Sid smirk and raised fist move. Billy Idol is Lee Harvey Oswald. Or Pat Nixon. Or Ron Kovic.Marky Dread wrote: ↑20 Jun 2025, 5:31pmBilly says you could have seen him in Oliver Stone's The Doors movie but you may have nipped out for popcorn.Dr. Medulla wrote: ↑20 Jun 2025, 1:14pmNeat. Re: Marky's new remasters thread
Just finished listening to the Sweet Revenge material. Its very clear how influential Derwood was in creating the Gen X guitar sound which Steve New, John McGeogh recreated for the eventual material on Kiss Me Deadly.
The chemistry was there but not the alchemy to put it all together.
At best, Sweet Revenge recordings are superior demos or even radio session quality. The rhythm section hasn't got the bass/bottom end tone, that would drive the songs along.
Anna Smiles and Cathy Comes Home should have made the final album and maybe the cheeky cover of Andy Warhol if it was ever done in the studio.
Thank you Marky for your considerable talent in creating this overview/collection. This special edition will be on repeat for a very long time.

Re: Marky's new remasters thread
You're most welcome mate. I agree regards Anna and Cathy they are good tunes and deserved a place on the album. I prefer Derwood's master tape mix to the ones released from cassette tapes used on Anthology. A shame they fell out as the Anthology would've been much improved with Derwood's input as well. The Anthology is a bit of a mess.Telecaster wrote: ↑21 Jun 2025, 5:13amJust finished listening to the Sweet Revenge material. Re: Marky's new remasters thread
Marky - Great work! I would love to hear it but right now Mega is acting up and the download keeps getting stuck at various stages of completion. At one time it almost went to 90% and just refused to proceed.
Can someone do me a favor and extract the zip file into separate ones per album?
TIA

TIA
Re: Marky's new remasters thread
Try a download manager. My attempt got stuck around 70% so I put the link into JDownloader and it downloaded the entire thing in under a minute.

Thanks it worked in Chrome, albeit I had to refresh the prior download. My suspicion is that my internet provider is throttling the DL speed.
