Marky your projects are amazing and really appreciated. I especially looking forward to the Kiss Me Deadly/Sweet Revenge material liner notes! I am never sure who played on what! That period is kind of nebulous.
Still is.

Vocals: Billy Idol
Bass: Tony James
Drums: Terry Chimes
Guitar: Eric Clapton/Ritchie Blackmore/Jimmy Page

Disclaimer:
No guitarists who feature on this record appear on the albums cover.
I was convinced Jeff Beck was in the mix too!!

The Sweet Revenge version of the album recorded with the original line-up has some great tracks and interesting versions as well and a few tracks that got dropped. Did some of these tracks end up on the KMD album or are they all recorded with Terry Chimes/masked guitarist version of the band?
All the tracks on "KMD" are new recordings.
The Sweet Revenge material with the original line-up is interesting as there are two separate sources. The tracks that appear on Anthology are taken from cassette tapes. The versions of the tracks from "KMD Sweet Revenge" released by Derwood Andrews are from the master tapes which he kept in his possession. The master tapes are different mixes and have a couple of different versions and in my opinion are the best sounding. Both sets are included in the box set as separate discs.

Jeff Beck only played on the live material. ;)
Thanks for clearing that up! The Anthology set also revealed they had a project to record a rock covers album. The abundance of covers appearing on their live albums supports this.

Also what do you think of the Empire album?
I'm not really sure a covers album would've made much sense at that stage. Unless the idea was to record it as a free disc alongside the main album.

I have the Empire album on vinyl and think it's a good listen.

I was surprised to read that, agree it didn't make sense. Though one of his most enduring solo tracks was "Mony Mony", so maybe they were on to something. I really dig the Empire album. It was a big influence on the Washington DC post punk wave of the mid-80's.

I still have my vinyl copy as well! The CD re-issue has the single as well as some unreleased studio and live tracks.

It would be interesting to know if "Mony Mony" was one of the intended covers.

Rock On - Gary Glitter
I Dig Everything - David Bowie
Andy Warhol - David Bowie
Little Bit of Love / Wishing Well - Free
The Hunter - Booker T & the MGs / Free
Say Mama - Gene Vincent
Let There Be Rock - AC/DC
Rock 'n' Roll - Led Zeppelin
Jet Boy - New York Dolls
Vicious - Lou Reed
Paranoid - Black Sabbath

Yeah I've been looking at the reissue Empire CD and I'm very tempted to get a copy though it's not cheap.

I had just made that same "Mony Mony" thought. Don't forget about 'Gimme Some Truth" too.

I have a digital copy of the Empire Re-issue I would be happy to share?

Yep Gimme Some Truth is a solid cover the BBC session take is my fave. However I didn't include it on the list because they had already recorded it at their first album sessions. So don't think they would've re-recorded it for their 1980 project.

Yes please mate that would be appreciated.

When Billy went to America Dancing With Myself was released as a solo single under the name Billy Idol. I've never actually heard a different version, was this just the Gen X version released under Billy's name?

Yes pretty much. The 12" version released under Gen X then later released on that first Billy Idol "Don't Stop" EP was extended by Keith Forsey. It's credited to Billy Idol with Generation X.

There are 3 versions of the same track (take) the KMD album length the 7" edit and the 12" extended version.

Dancing with Myself was the 4th track on the EP that also includes re-recorded version of Untouchables.

Later on the track was reissued in different mixes like on Vital Idol etc.

I agree it's a cracking track. The Gary Glitter track is great too. Though I prefer the version recorded in '77 at the debut album sessions. Not the dub version but the unreleased version. It's in included in my remasters.

I've just got the booklet for KMD to do now then it's all complete. However it may be a few weeks off yet as I've got to have cataract surgery on my left eye. Nothing heavy just a 15 min operation. So will need to rest my mince pies for a few days. Waiting on a date.
