Alternate song titles on Mick's demo tapes of London Calling, Bankrobber, Sandinista and Combat Rock
Some photos of Mick's demos (and other collectibles) were just posted on Reddit a little while ago: https://www.reddit.com/r/theclash/comme ... c_library/
Alternate song titles and mixes include:
- Billy The Kid on London Calling
- The King of Spades on London Calling
- Paint It Black on London Calling
- The Funk on London Calling
- Burning Bush on Combat Rock
- Gluggo's (?) Waltz on Sandinista
- Acoustic Sandinista demos
- Multiple mixes of Bankrobber
I didnt take the photos but if anyone lives in that area maybe they see what else is there?

Hang on...is the RNR Public library re open?
Edit
Yes it fucking is! How the fuck have I missed this? There's active threads discussing the name of tomato sauce but nothing about Mick Jones reopening the public library! I need to get to London!

Seriously, great to see Mick so active and passionate. Probably the closest we'll get to an autobiography at this stage, looks great though doubt I'll get the chance to visit sadly.

Gluggo was the band's nickname for keyboards player Mickey Gallagher, since he allegedly liked a drink(!)YoungParisians wrote: ↑01 Mar 2025, 9:06pmSome photos of Mick's demos (and other collectibles) were just posted on Reddit a little while ago: https://www.reddit.com/r/theclash/comme ... c_library/

Gluggo's Waltz could be Rebel Waltz, of course

Never occurred to me before but are there similarities between Paint it Black and Jimmy Jazz in terms of chord progression? Suppose King of spades would be the card cheat most likely.

It's an old Jazz chord progression though.
I imagine that "Paint it Black" is nothing more than ....wait for it ....drum roll please a cover of Paint it Black.

The other titles like King of Spades are prototypes for their eventual versions/titles.
