Complete Control Demo/Outake??

Post by Visitor »

Ever since the early 80's I've heard rumors there is a Lee Perry demo of Complete Control floating around. Anyone know anything about this??

As you probably know, "Complete Control" was originally produced by Lee Perry. However, the results weren't copletely satisfactory and got cleaned up elsewhere. So as far as a full and untampered with Lee Perry production of CC, I dunno. A version of "Pressure Drop" with Scratch at the controls and is available on the "Ultimate Rarities" boot.
Wouldn't be any good asking LP either because, in spite of putting a picture of the Clash on the Black Ark wall of fame, he is still convinced he was producing the Sex Pistols.
Sorry I couldn't be of more help, but hopefully, the amusing (and I'm assured true) anecdote made you smile.

All the best,

That's hilariously deranged!
I feel that there is a fascistic element, for example, in the Rolling Stones . . .

it's a mix from the stems used on Rock Band, or Guitar Hero, whichever CC is used on.

Is it really? All circulating "outtakes" of Pressure Drop sound like the same basic track as released in differing mixes on the B-Side (Super Black Market Clash), or the more polished mix used on Black Market Clash done with Bill Price. None I've heard sound like The Clash was performing it in 1977, when the Lee Perry sessions were recorded, including the early vinyl bootleg.

The song is broken down into four separate tracks for the game, similar to the stems derived from master tapes that are given to film mixers. The technologically adept are able to grab the tracks (drums, bass, guitar and vocals) and remix them, adding whatever he or she pleases in terms of outboard post-production. There are people having a lot of fun with all the various songs on these games, though for some songs the original tracks are not available. This is why the Pistols rerecorded theirs, and why some such as Mott, the Dolls and others have been rerecorded by supposed soundalikes.

I've noticed the Black Market Clash version is not only a different mix, but has different vocals, leading me to believe it's an altogether different take.
