Movers and Shakers appreciation thread

Post by Heston »

I was listening to it last night, drunk. I've found alcohol improves the listening experience where CtC is concerned and this song is wonderful. Those great trumpets, are they real or synthetic?

Any CtC virgins, make sure you pop your cherry with a bellyful of booze.
There's a tiny, tiny hopeful part of me that says you guys are running a Kaufmanesque long con on the board

Unless it's part of the chanty, shouty chorus.

And only then if you're not drowned out by the bongos.

As I've said before, Movers and Shakers is my favorite song off CTC. TIE and North and South are better songs, but in my opinion Movers and Shakers is the only song on CTC that was meant to be recorded with multitracked guitars, football chanters, etc...

Oh, for fuck's sake, Bernie- get the damn tapes out and make that album halfway-decent, at least. Those Clash guys and their egos...

The boy stood in the burning slum!!!
Those words make older women hot for underage robots.

MOVERS AND SHAKERS COME ON!!! Bah badadadada!!!
Look, you have to establish context for these things. And I maintain that unless you appreciate the Fall of Constantinople, the Great Fire of London, and Mickey Mantle's fatalist alcoholism, live Freddy makes no sense. If you want to half-ass it, fine, go call Simon Schama to do the appendix.

The saddest bits on Cut the Crap:

1) "rock rock, Clash City Rockers!" in We Are the Clash
2) Nick's "come on!" near the end of Movers and Shakers

The saddest bits on CTC - me masturbating during Cool Under Heat.

I'm giving you a warning -- I'm gonna burn those blue suede shoes. Swagger in the morning, we're gonna make some front page news!

CHORUS!

BE COOL UNDER HEAT!
punk fantasy-la-and
BE COOL UNDER HEAT!
these lyrics are rather underwh-elming!
BE COOL OUT ON THAT STREET!
like I said before
BE COOL UNDER HEAT!
my sha-rona!

In all seriousness though, that Clash City Rockers bit in WATC makes me a bit sad every time I hear it.
