I love this song, sincerely and non-ironically.

Inder, the guitar intro is great.
There's a tiny, tiny hopeful part of me that says you guys are running a Kaufmanesque long con on the board

After the lyrics to Dirty Punk made me cringe, and WATC almost made me stop my cassette player...
Are You Red..Y sounded pretty good.

I think if they had released it with the live arrangement it would have been amazing.

But I think the CTC version would be a fun and funny "alternate" mix if that had happened.

The single could have been:

A Side: "Are You Ready For War"
B Side: "Are You Red..Y (Clash Audio Dynamite By Nite Mix)"
”INDER LOCK THE THE KISS THREAD IVE REALISED IM A PRZE IDOOT” - Thomas Jefferson

"But the gorilla thinks otherwise!"

The guitar intro doesn't make any sense!

What the fuck is diddley-dum-de-dun-dun-dun-dun-ratatatatatatatat-diddley-dum-de-dun-dun-dun-dun-duuuuuuuuuuun supposed to mean! It has no relevance to anything, doesn't appear anywhere else in the song, isn't a recurring theme, is just incongruous, superfluous and HORRIBLE!

It means they were keeping it real, yo.

I've been on jobs where the person in charge has no fucking clue what they're doing. So everything always ends up rewritten and wheels always end up being reinvented. It's inevitable.

And if you're weighing the live and studio versions of this little ditty, you'd have to conclude that...somewhere along the way...the reinventon went a trifle pear-shaped.

Was listening on the way in this morning. The keyboards on this song are actually pretty well done with some interesting bits throughout. Same for the guitars.

The intro is a bit suspect as noted above, but otherwise, Heston might be on to something.
Look, you have to establish context for these things. And I maintain that unless you appreciate the Fall of Constantinople, the Great Fire of London, and Mickey Mantle's fatalist alcoholism, live Freddy makes no sense. If you want to half-ass it, fine, go call Simon Schama to do the appendix.

It sounds okay live and didn't sound bad as a demo. It doesn't sound very good after Bernard Rhodes got his hands on it. Backing track sounds like it could have been used in a 1985 Radio Shack commercial. The music (as does most of the music on CtC) sounds like it was powered by "D" batteries.

That'll be the frenetic disco sheen I once referred to. Inder is wrong about the intro, I love the Sea Shanty vibe, it is most excellent.

Great song.

It could've been a contender.
