Shit yeah I agree so many great foods I used to enjoy but are afraid to because of that sodding pain. It's simply evil.TJM wrote:The gout is the most painful thing I've ever had to go through. I remember spending 3 days in bed pissing into a water cooler 5 gallon jug because the 10 foot walk to the bathroom was too much. The sheet was too painful on my foot as well, but the worst was my dog who would lay on the bed next to me and whenever someone would check on me or move around in the next door apartment he would wag his tail hitting the golf ball wedged into my big toe joint. I've had great results with allopurinol. Although the purines you get through diet only account for about 20% of your uric acid level I still avoid the high purine foods. I never needed much of an excuse to not eat organ meats but the shellfish is a tough giveup.

I have had good results with allupurinol, as well, and indomethecin, which helps reduce swelling of inflamed joints. Colchicine is the major drug that doctors prescribe, since it knocks out the pain and swelling most quickly -- although, from what I gather, it has implications for your kidneys (side effects-wise). Never imagined having to contend with such things back in our wilder days, though I still don't see myself leaving the carnivore trail just yet...

I have used all the above medications and a vast number of herbals too. Allupurinol and Colchine have side effects like stomache ulsers and skin rashes but it only affects a small number. Their is now another approved drug called Febuxostat [more here] http://guidance.nice.org.uk/TA164.

Finally managed to get started and thoroughly enjoying it, great read.
Very pleased to see Marcus championing my long held and well argued opinion that The Clash and Pistols were Mod influenced in look and sound. I remember being slated on the old old board about that one. Remember the bog brush hair style v helmetless scooter riding argument

I've finally purchased a copy as well, and it is as hard to put down as I had expected. I've just started the chapter on recording.
I was a tad confused as to your description of Julie as horn led....
edit: Oh, man...I was totally thinking of Jimmy Jazz for some reason. Never mind.

I love that episode where Bobby gets gout. Stone cold classic.

Conan: Did you like the Clash?
John: No. Isn't that good enough? No, no, no.
Conan: Oh Come on, elaborate. Why, did you guys think you were trying to do different things?
John: Well, their kind of songwriting really was just a few quotes from Karl Marx around a merry little melody.
Conan: With a driving back beat that just wouldn't quit!
