Maybe there's a weird perspective thing for me, but it's also like DL is slightly too big. Whenever I see it, I think that he's been cut out of a different photo—from the same event, mind you—and been placed in the one we see because it's more effective. I agree that the relative bleaching of the road and sidewalk versus the detail and contrast on DL might be why, but it doesn't seem natural.Marky Dread wrote: ↑16 Nov 2021, 8:45amHere's the original. You can see Don half on the road half on the pavement (sidewalk). With the road surface removed it gives that "floating" effect.

I'm now wondering if that's The Clash or TRAC?

Didn't he get healthy again for TRAC before going off the rails? I can usually tell a Clash era by Mick's hair but it's difficult here. Topper just has a healthy glow I never saw in the post 1980 Clash photos.Marky Dread wrote: ↑15 Mar 2022, 1:36pmLooking at how healthy Topper looks I would say the fomer.

Look, you have to establish context for these things. And I maintain that unless you appreciate the Fall of Constantinople, the Great Fire of London, and Mickey Mantle's fatalist alcoholism, live Freddy makes no sense. If you want to half-ass it, fine, go call Simon Schama to do the appendix.

So not TRAC but BAD. I was trying to pin down that cap. Mind when did TRAC stop? Must be before TRAC finished or after BAD started.matedog wrote: ↑15 Mar 2022, 1:45pmUSA/Olympics hat suggests 84 (LA Summer Olympics) to me.Heston wrote: ↑15 Mar 2022, 1:38pmDidn't he get healthy again for TRAC before going off the rails? Mick's stubble look is very much his image on the first album.

TRAC fell apart in May 1984 according to John Lennard.Marky Dread wrote: ↑15 Mar 2022, 1:56pmSo not TRAC but BAD. I was trying to pin down that cap. Mind when did TRAC stop? Interesting if we are dating the image by the Olympics cap.Heston wrote: ↑15 Mar 2022, 2:43pmTRAC fell apart in May 1984 according to John Lennard.Marky Dread wrote: ↑15 Mar 2022, 1:56pmSo not TRAC but BAD. The 1984 Summer Olympics (officially the Games of the XXIII Olympiad and also known as Los Angeles 1984) were an international multi-sport event held from July 28 to August 12, 1984.

Presumably they were sold some period (days? weeks? months?) before the Olympics, so I think May 84 is possible.Marky Dread wrote: ↑15 Mar 2022, 7:03pmInteresting if we are dating the image by the Olympics cap.Heston wrote: ↑15 Mar 2022, 2:43pmTRAC fell apart in May 1984 according to John Lennard.Marky Dread wrote: ↑15 Mar 2022, 1:56pmSo not TRAC but BAD. I never thought I'd have to do research on the overlap between The Clash and the 1984 Olympics but here we are.

84 was an absurd Olympics thanks to the boycott.Marky Dread wrote: ↑16 Mar 2022, 10:54amBut you were waiting for this moment your whole life though, right?
