FHTE is all good, great CC and Mag 7, but i think overall the StH would just tip the scales for me. All round I think it is a quite epic performance.

CC is the winner for me, just totally inspired. City of the Dead rocks hard too, so much better than the record.Low Down Low wrote: ↑25 Jan 2022, 5:58pmFHTE is all good, great CC and Mag 7, but i think overall the StH would just tip the scales for me. I agree, especially about City of the Dead. I heard the FHTE version first and was disappointed when I finally heard the studio version.Heston wrote: ↑25 Jan 2022, 6:13pmCC is the winner for me, just totally inspired. Re: The Clash observations thread.
Was just going to reply and add WM, simply phenomenal performance.
1. STH
2. CC
3. WMIHP
But very little between them all.
Re: The Clash observations thread.
Love just about any version of CC, but yeah, this one is really good. COTD is right up there for me as well, as is WMIHP.Heston wrote: ↑25 Jan 2022, 6:13pmCC is the winner for me, just totally inspired. I hate to say this but Terry gave WMIHP a little bit of a jaunty swing which I liked.

Don't worry Hes, you're not alone: I hate that you're saying this too
Wiggle, wiggle, wiggle like a bowl of soup
Wiggle, wiggle, wiggle like a rolling hoop
Wiggle, wiggle, wiggle like a ton of lead
Wiggle - you can raise the dead
Pex Lives!

Re: The Clash observations thread.
Tommy Gun would have been as equally perfect an opener to GEER as SEH.
Look, you have to establish context for these things. And I maintain that unless you appreciate the Fall of Constantinople, the Great Fire of London, and Mickey Mantle's fatalist alcoholism, live Freddy makes no sense. If you want to half-ass it, fine, go call Simon Schama to do the appendix.

Agreed. Then leave SEH to open side 2. GEER was always too front-loaded.

Should've found room for "Pressure Drop" on that album.

And maybe The Prisoner and Jail Guitar Doors. Julie and Drug Stabbing time should have been the b-sides in 78.

Re: The Clash observations thread.
Me too, but it's lightweight in writing and production compared to the rest of the album. This "slab of hate" deserves meaner songs.Marky Dread wrote: ↑27 Jan 2022, 9:14pmI really like "Julie".Heston wrote: ↑27 Jan 2022, 9:11pmAnd maybe The Prisoner and Jail Guitar Doors. Re: The Clash observations thread.
Maybe. Personally "Julie" works in giving the album some room and a break from the bombast. That's why I think "Pressure Drop" should've been on it. I guess it may have looked like a similar move with the first album including "Police & Thieves".Heston wrote: ↑27 Jan 2022, 9:22pmMe too, but it's lightweight in writing and production compared to the rest of the album. I often wonder what the demo of "Tommy Gun" sounded like plus a few others that have never seen the light of day. I mean there had to be other takes, right?
